Welcome to my crochet small bird pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished small bird applique will look like.

Crochet Small Bird Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (208) Yellow Gold and (254) Moon Rock.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Thread and needle to stitch the bird together and black thread to embroider on the eye.
- Scissors.

Size
Large bird (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
8cm wide x 7cm high or 3” wide x 2.75” high
Medium bird (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
6cm wide x 5.5cm high or 2.5” wide x 2” high
Small bird (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
4.5cm wide x 4cm high or 1.75” wide x 1.5” high
Head & Body
Using (208) Yellow Gold work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts, 1 sc and 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 6: 2 ch, work 1 hdc and 1 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 7 sts, 1 sc and 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 8: 2 ch, work 1 hdc and 1 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st. 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of last 3 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row
Work 1 sl st in each st around to end of row 9. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Tail
6 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in end of body. Turn.
Row 2: Working into front loop only work 1 sl st in each st to 2nd last st, 2 ch.
Row 3: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, working in back loop only work 1 sl st in each st to end, sl st in end of body. Turn.
Row 4: Working into front loop only work 1 sl st in each st to 2nd last st, 2 ch.
Row 5: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, working in back loop only work 1 sl st in each st to end, sl st in end of body. Fasten off.

Wing
Using (208) Yellow Gold work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc on 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over the 2 remaining sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 3 ch, work a joined dc over the 3 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around wing. Fasten off.

Beak
Join (254) Moon Rock to front of head where shown.

3 ch.
Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in last ch, sl st in next st on head. Fasten off.

Legs
Join (254) Moon Rock where shown.

6 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each of next 2 ch, 2 ch. Fasten off.

Join (254) Moon Rock to st behind 1st leg and work another leg the same.


To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the wing to the back.

Embroider on an eye.
