Welcome to my crochet sitting hedgehog pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished sitting hedgehog applique will look like.

Crochet Sitting Hedgehog Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (130) Old Lace, (254) Moon Rock, (162) Black Coffee, (606) Grass Green and (110) Black.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Thread and needle to stitch the hedgehog together and black thread to embroider on the eyes.
- Green thread to embroider on the leaf markings if desired.
- Scissors.

Size
Large Hedgehog (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
14cm wide x 10cm high or 5.5” wide x 4” high
Medium Hedgehog (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
9cm wide x 8cm high or 3.5” wide x 3” high
Small Hedgehog (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
7cm wide x 5.5cm high or 2.75” wide x 2” high
Face
Using (130) Old Lace work 5 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each in each st to end. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around. Join with a sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.

Body
Using (130) Old Lace work 5 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 5 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 8: 3 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st. Join with a sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.

Stitch head to body.

In following 3 rows work 2 sc in a stitch when needed.
Join (254) Moon Rock 4 sts up from join of neck.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sl st in next st, 1 sc in each st to 1st st around bottom of body, sl st in 1st st up other side. Fasten off.

Join (254) Moon Rock to 1st st of last row in back loop only.

Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in back loop only in each st around head and down the side to bottom, sl st in next st. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, working into front loop only work 1 sl st in next st, 1 sc in each of following 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 6 sts, 1 sc in each of following 4 sts, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts. Fasten off.

Spikes
Join (254) Moon Rock to 1st front loop left on row 1.

Row 1: (2 ch, sl st in next st, 3 ch, sl st in following st) repeat to bottom of 1st side. Fasten off.

Join (254) Moon Rock to 1st front loop left on row 2.
Row 2: (3 ch, sl st in next st, 2 ch, sl st in following st) repeat to end of row. Fasten off.

Join (254) Moon Rock to last st left on row 3.

Row 3: (2 ch, sl st in next st, 3 ch, sl st in following st) repeat to end of row. Fasten off.

Right Arm
Using (254) Moon Rock work 7 ch.
Work 2 tr in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 hdc in following ch, 1 sc in last ch. (2 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in the side of sc) 3 times. Fasten off.

Left Arm
Using (254) Moon Rock work 5 ch.
Work 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch. (2 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in the side of sc) 3 times. Fasten off.

Foot (make 2)
Using (254) Moon Rock work 5 ch.
Work 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 sc in last ch. (2 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in the side of sc) 3 times. Fasten off.

Nose
Using (110) Black make a magic loop. I left long tails at beginning and end to stitch it down and embroider on the mouth.
1 ch, work 1 sc in circle. Pull circle tight. Fasten off.

Ear (make 2)
Using (162) Black Coffee make a magic loop.
I left slightly longer tails to stitch the ears down and weave in behind.
1 ch, work 3 sc in circle, sl st in circle. Pull circle tight. Fasten off.

Join (254) Moon Rock to ch.

1 ch, work 1 sl st in outside loop of each st. Fasten off.

Front of Leaf Boat
Using (606) Grass Green work 18 ch.
Row 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 15 ch, 2 sc in last ch. 6 ch. (19 sts + 6 ch)

Row 2: Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in each of following 2 ch, 1 dc in last ch, 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 17 sts, 1 hdc in last st, 6 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in each of last 3 ch, sl st in end of starting ch. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row
Work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, (1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sl st in following st) repeat along bottom of leaf, 1 sl st in each st up to point, 1 sl st, 1 ch and 1 sl st in point, 1 sl st in 1st 4 sts down the side, a joined sc over next 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to centre, a joined sc over following 2 sts, 1 sc in each st along top to last 5 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts, sl st to point, 3 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in end of leaf. Fasten off.

Back of Leaf Boat
Using (606) Grass Green work 18 ch.
Row 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 15 ch, 2 sc in last ch. 6 ch. (19 sts + 6 ch)
Row 2: Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in each of following 2 ch, 1 dc in last ch, 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 17 sts, 1 hdc in last st. 6 ch. (23 sts + 6 ch)
Row 3: Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in each of last 3 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts. Turn. (19 sts)
Row 4: Work 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 9 sts, 1 sc in each of following 4 sts, 1 sl st in next st. Turn. (16 sts)
Row 5: Work 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 10 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, sl st in next st. Turn.
Row 6: Work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 16 sts, sl st in point of leaf. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around bottom to next point. Fasten off. I left a long tail to stitch the boat together.

To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider leaf markings to front leaf boat if desired.

Stitch the leaf boat pieces together along sides and bottom but leave top open.

Attach nose to face and embroider on the mouth.

Embroider on eyes.

Sew ears to head.

Stitch arms to body.

Attach feet to body.

Sit hedgehog in boat and stitch down if desired.
