Welcome to my crochet dinosaur stegosaurus pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished dinosaur stegosaurus applique will look like.

Crochet Dinosaur Stegosaurus Pattern

Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

  • Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (513) Spring Green, (189) Royal Orange and (393) Charcoal.
  • A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
  • A darning needle to weave in ends.
  • Black thread to embroider on the eye.
  • Scissors.

Size

Large dinosaur (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

19cm wide x 12cm high or 7.5” wide x 4.5” high

Medium dinosaur (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

12cm wide x 7.5cm high or 4.5” wide x 3” high

Small dinosaur (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

10cm wide x 6.5cm high or 4” wide x 2.5” high

Head & Body

Using (513) Spring Green work 5 ch.

 

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch, 1 sc in last ch.  5 ch.  (4 sts + 5 ch)

Row 2:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch and each st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sl st over 1st 2 sts, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sc)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sl st in following st.  3 ch.  (5 sc, 1 sl st + 3 ch)

Row 6:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over next 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in each of last 2 sts.  16 ch.  (3 sts + 16 ch)

Row 9:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 3 ch, 1 hdc in each of following 3 ch, 1 dc in each of next 3 ch, 1 hdc in each of following 3 ch, 1 sc in each of last 3 ch, 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (18 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 16 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (21 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 17 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 14:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 12 sts, 1 sc in back loop only in each of following 5 sts, (near back leg will be worked into the front loops) 1 sc in each of last 3 sts.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 17 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 16:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in back loop only in each of following 3 sts, (near front leg will be worked into the front loops) 1 sc in each of following 13 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (21 sts)

Row 17:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 18 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (21 sts)

Row 18:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in each of following 7 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sl st in each of following 4 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Work 13 ch for the tail.

Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, (a joined hdc over next 2 ch) 2 times, 1 dc in each of following 2 ch, a joined dc over next 2 ch, 1 tr in following ch, a joined tr over last 2 ch, sl st in end of row.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around to beginning of row 18.  Fasten off.

Near Front Leg

Join (513) Spring Green to 1st front loop left from row 16.  I left a long tail at beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1:  1 ch, working into front loop only work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 4:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 2 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail left at beginning work 1 sl st in each st on straight edges and 1 sl st, 1 ch and 1 sl st in each corner st around leg.  Fasten off.

Near Back Leg

Join (513) Spring Green to 1st front loop left from row 14.  I left a long tail at beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1:  1 ch, working into front loop only work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 2 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Using the tail left at beginning work 1 sl st in each st on straight edges and 1 sl st, 1 ch and 1 sl st in each corner st around leg.  Fasten off.

Far Back Leg

Join (513) Spring Green in back loop only 2 sts before near back leg.  I left a long tail at beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 2 sc in next st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 2 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Join (513) Spring Green in back loop only 4 sts before near front leg.  I left a long tail at beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1:  3 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn. (2 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 2 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail left at beginning work 1 sl st in each st on straight edges and 1 sl st, 1 ch and 1 sl st in each corner st around leg.  Fasten off.

Hoof (at end of each leg)

Join (393) Charcoal to 1st st at end of leg.

2 ch, work 1 hdc in same st as join, 1 hdc and 1 sc in next st, 1 sl st in following st.  Fasten off.

1st Blade

Join (189) Royal Orange 4 sts back from neck.  I left a long tail at beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join and 1 sc in next st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in each st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Using the tail left at beginning work 1 sl st in each st on straight edges and 1 sl st, 1 ch and 1 sl st in each point around blade.  Fasten off.

Join (189) Royal Orange 4 sts back from last blade.  I left a long tail at beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in each st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail left at beginning work 1 sl st in each st on straight edges and 1 sl st, 1 ch and 1 sl st in each point around blade.  Fasten off.

Join (189) Royal Orange 4 sts back from last blade.  I left a long tail at beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail left at beginning work 1 sl st in each st on straight edges and 1 sl st, 1 ch and 1 sl st in each point around blade.  Fasten off.

Weave in ends.  Embroider on an eye and nose marking.
