Welcome to the next guide in my beginner crochet series. This guide will show you how to make a crochet magic loop, also known as a magic circle.

Easy Magic Loop

As I use circles for a lot of my designs I thought I’d shown you how to make a magic loop also known as a magic circle for my beginner post this week.

This will be using US terminology. If you would like to get the UK version go to Crochet Magic Loop (UK Version).

The two ways I use for starting a circle are:

1. Making some chain (usually 4 – 6) and joining with a sl st in the first chain to make a circle.
2. A magic loop.

I find the magic loop is better if I need a very small circle and it makes a very even circle.
There are many ways to make a magic loop but I find this a quick and easy one.

Make a loop as shown.

Put yarn over hook.

Pull the yarn through the loop with the hook.

Pull the loop loose instead of tight.
You can work any crochet stitch into the circle.
I’ll be working double crochet.
Work 3 chain (for the 1^st dc).

Work the desired amount of stitches into the circle making sure you crochet over the 2 strands of yarn and keeping the tail sticking out.

Pull the tail tight.

Slip stitch into the top chain and fasten off.

Weave in the ends.

And here’s the finished magic loop.
