Welcome to my crochet dump truck pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished dump truck applique will look like.

Crochet Dump Truck Pattern

Abbreviations

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

• Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (208) Yellow Gold, (215) Royal Blue, (110) Black, and (074) Mercury.
• A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
• A darning needle to weave in ends.
• Thread and needle to stitch the dump truck together.
• Scissors.

Size

Large dump truck (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

18cm wide x 10cm high or 7” wide x 4” high

Medium dump truck (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

12.5cm wide x 7cm high or 5” wide x 2.75” high

Small dump truck (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

9.5cm wide x 6cm high or 3.75” wide x 2.5” high

Wheels (Make 2)

Using (208) Yellow Gold make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  1 ch, work 6 sc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  (6 sts)

Join in (110) Black but leave Yellow Gold attached for row 3.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in each st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  (12 sts)

Change to Yellow Gold and keep the Black attached for row 4.

 

Row 3:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in same place as join, (1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in following st) repeat to end of row.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off the Yellow Gold.

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in same place as join, (1 sc in next st, 2 sc in following st) repeat to end of row.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Mudguard

Join (215) Royal Blue to any st.

1 ch, work 2 sc in same st as join, 2 sc in each of next 6 sts, 1 ch, sl st in same st as last sc.  Fasten off.

Dump Bed

Using (208) Yellow Gold work 6 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Join in (215) Royal Blue and crochet over the Yellow Gold.

 

Row 2:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  Using the (208) Yellow Gold and working over the Royal Blue work 2 ch, 2 hdc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 4:  Using the (215) Royal Blue and working over the Yellow Gold work 2 ch, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 5:  Using the (208) Yellow Gold and working over the Royal Blue work 2 ch, 2 hdc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 6:  Using the (215) Royal Blue and working over the Yellow Gold work 2 ch, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 7:  Using the (208) Yellow Gold and working over the Royal Blue work 2 ch, 2 hdc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 8:  Using the (215) Royal Blue and working over the Yellow Gold work 2 ch, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 9:  Using the (208) Yellow Gold and working over the Royal Blue work 2 ch, 2 hdc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 10:  Using the (215) Royal Blue and working over the Yellow Gold work 2 ch, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts). Fasten off the Royal Blue.

Row 11:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in each of last 3 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off. 

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st along top, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in next st on dump bed, work 1 sc in each st on sides and 1 sc, 1 ch and 1 sc in each corner st to to end of row.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  8 ch.  Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 4 ch, 1 hdc in each remaining ch and next 2 sts along top, 1 dc in following st.  Fasten off.

Axel

Using (110) Black work 27 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (26 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (26 sts)

Row 3:  Sl st in each of 1^st 2 sts, 2 ch, work a joined dc over same st as last sl st and next st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 4 sts, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in following st.  Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 5 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc in each of following 4 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Work 1 sl st in each st down the slope and around the end to the ch.  Fasten off.

Join (208) Yellow Gold to last ch of axel where shown.  Work 8 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in top of row 1 of black part, sl st in top of last sc of row 2.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 2:  Work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st of the Yellow Gold and 1 sc in each of next 8 sts on black, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Work 2 sl sts up the side of the black.  Turn.

Row 4:  Work 1 sc in each st to end.  Fasten off leaving a long tail to neaten front.

 

Thread the tail down to 1^st st of the Yellow part of axle.

Cab

Join (215) Royal Blue to 2^nd st from front.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 13 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts of Yellow Gold.  Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 4:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 5 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Neatening For Yellow Gold Part of Truck Front

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st of front of truck.  Fasten off.

 

Join (074) Mercury to 3^rd st from front of the cab.

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined sc over same st as join and next st, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 6 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 5 sts.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 4 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Side of Cab

Join the (215) Royal Blue to same st as last st of row 5 of window.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Rows 2-3:  1 ch, work 1 sc on each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Fasten off leaving a long tail to stitch the window.

Stitch the edge of the window to the side piece.

Neatening Row

Join (215) Royal Blue to 1^st st of cab.

Work 1 sc in each st on edges and 2 sc in each corner st to end of top of cab, 1 sl st in each st down the back side.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider marking on window.

Attach the dump bed to the axle where shown.

Stitch the wheels to the truck.
