Welcome to my crochet crocodile pattern. This is another request that I received. The finished crocodile applique will look like this.

Crochet Crocodile Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Crochet cotton or wool, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (606) Grass Green, (222) Tulip, (106) Snow White and (110) Black.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Darning needle to weave in ends. Sewing thread and needle to stitch the crocodile together.
Size
Large crocodile (Using 8 ply crochet cotton & a 3mm hook)
18cm x 10cm or 7” x 4”
Medium crocodile (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
11.5cm x 6.5cm or 4.5” x 2.5”
Small crocodile (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
9cm x 6cm or 3.5” x 2.25”
Crocodile Body and Head
Using green make a magic loop.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 htr in circle. Pull circle tight. Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch, work 2 htr in st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc and 1 htr in 1st st, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 6: 3 ch, work a joined tr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc and 1 htr in 1st st, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 8: 3 ch, work a joined tr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc and 1 htr in 1st st, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 10: 3 ch, work a joined tr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 12: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 13: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 15: 3 ch, work 1 tr in 1st st, 1 htr in next st and 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 16: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in following st, 2 tr in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 17: 3 ch, work 2 tr in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, 2 tr in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 19: 3 ch, work 1 tr in 1st st, 1 htr in next st and 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 20: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 21: 3 ch, work 1 tr in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 22: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 23: 3 ch, work 1 tr in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 24: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 4 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 tr in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 25: 3 ch, work a joined tr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 26: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 4 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 27: 3 ch, work a joined tr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 28: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 5 sts, 1 htr in each st to last 2 sts, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 29: 3 ch, work a joined tr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 30: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Start on Bottom Part of Mouth
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 4 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts. Turn.
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn.
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn.
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn.
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Fasten off.
Top Part of Mouth
Join green cotton to same st as top st on bottom part of mouth.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in next st, then 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 8: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts. Turn.
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn.
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn.
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn.
Row 12: 1 ch, work 1 dc in the st. Fasten off
Pink Part of Mouth
Join pink cotton to last st at bottom of mouth as shown.
1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a sl st in following st, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in each of following 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join green cotton to st before where bottom of mouth starts.
1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in following st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sl st in following st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Work 1 sl st in each st to pink, 1 sl st in back loop only of each st of pink part of mouth, work 1 sl st in the 1st 3 sts on the bottom side of top part of the mouth, (2 dc in next st, 1 sl st in following st) 2 times, 1 sl st in each st to just around the curve of end of mouth.
Work 2 dc in next st, 1 sl st in each st to just up from where mouth starts.
1 dc and 1 htr in next st, 2 tr in following st, 1 htr and 1 dc in next st.
Work sl sts around the rest of the crocodile working joined sl sts to pull the tail in where needed. Fasten off.
Back Eye
Using green cotton make a magic loop
1 ch, work 7 htr in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Outer Eye
Using white make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 5 htr in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Inner Eye
Using black make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 3 dc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Front Leg
Using green work 3 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. 4 ch. (4 sts + 4 ch)
Row 4: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. (7 sts) Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row and Bottom of Leg
Work 1 dc in each st around sides and along top, along bottom work (a joined dc over next 2 sts) 2 times, (sl st in next st, 2 ch, work 1 htr in same st as ch, 2 ch, sl st in same st) 3 times. Fasten off.
Back Leg
Using green work 3 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts and a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, into 1st st work 1 htr, 2 ch, sl st in same st as htr, 2 ch, 1 htr, 2 ch and sl st in same st, sl st into last st and work 2 ch, 1 htr, 2 ch and sl st into same st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
Work 1 dc in each st around to start of row 5. Fasten off.
Far Back Leg
Using green work 3 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st right around leg. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Attach inner eye to outer eye.
Sew the eye to the crocodile in the area for the eye.
Stitch the back eye behind the eye where shown.
Sew the front leg to the crocodile.
Attach the back leg to the crocodile.
Stitch the far back leg to the back of the crocodile where shown.
