Farm Baby Blanket
I’ve been planning this farm blanket for a few years. I loved spending time during summer holidays at my grandparents’ dairy farm when I was a child. Most of my days were spent around the farm with my grandpa but grandma did teach me how to crochet when I was 7.
On the farm there were cows, horses, chickens and dogs.
The blanket was made using 8 ply yarn which is light worsted in the US and double knit in the UK. I used the baby blanket crochet pattern.
I used 8 ply yarn for the house using the crochet house pattern. Once the house was stitched to the blanket, I drew a path to go from the door to the edge of the blanket and I crocheted it out of 2 ply cotton. The grass and flowers along the path and near the house were also worked using 2 ply cotton.
I added a light each side of the house using the street light pattern and Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply cotton.
The pine trees were worked in Scheepjes Catona cotton using the pine tree pattern and the short pine tree pattern.
The crochet tree pattern was used for the tree. I worked the tree in 4 ply cotton and the leaves, grass, flowers and swing in 2 ply cotton. The swing was made using the blossoms and swing for tree crochet pattern.
I worked the barn using the crochet barn pattern using 8 ply yarn and used 2 ply cotton for the grass and flowers.
The 3 small pigs near the pine trees were made using 2 and 4 ply cotton and a pattern I designed for a crochet summit.
2 of the cows were made using 2 ply cotton and 2 were made using 4 ply cotton. They were made using the crochet cow pattern.
The man and hat were made out of Scheepjes 2 ply cotton using the crochet cowboy hat pattern and the crochet man pattern.
2 ply cotton and the crochet border collie pattern was used to make the dog.
I used 4 ply cotton and the crochet horse pattern to crochet the horses.
Some of the sheep were worked in 2 ply cotton and some in 4 ply cotton using the crochet sheep pattern. I made the lambs slightly smaller using the same pattern.
The pond with water lilies was made using 2 ply cotton and the crochet pond pattern.
8 ply yarn and the crochet tractor pattern were used to make the tractor.
I used 2 ply cotton and the crochet donkey pattern to work the donkey.
The llamas were also made in 2 ply cotton using the crochet llama pattern.
I used 2 ply cotton for the rooster and chickens made from the crochet rooster pattern and the crochet chicken pattern.
4 ply cotton and the crochet pig pattern were used for the pig near the bottom of the blanket.
The crochet boy with a fishing rod pattern and 4 ply cotton was used for the boy.
I used the crochet large pond pattern and 4 ply cotton to make the large pond with ducks. I added an edging around and used 2 ply cotton to make various sized rocks. I added mallard ducks and bulrushes using the crochet mallard duck pattern and the crochet bulrushes pattern and 2 ply cotton. The pig was made using 4 ply cotton and the easy pig crochet pattern.
