The new pattern today will be a crochet pig appliqué which will look like this.

Crochet Pig Pattern

Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr – treble crochet
  • dtr – double treble crochet

Materials used

  • 2 different pinks, white and black cotton or wool.
  • Crochet hook.
  • Scissors.
  • Darning needle for weaving in ends.
  • Sewing needle.
  • Black, white and pink thread for sewing together. 

Purchasing Supplies

Head

Make a magic loop.
Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 dc into loop and pull tight. Slip st. into 3rd ch.
Row 2: 3 ch. Work 1 dc in same place as ch, then 2 dc into each dc. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.

Row 3: 3 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, (1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st) 5 times, 1 tr and 1 dtr in next st, 2 dtr in following st, 1 dtr and 1 tr in next st, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in following st) 3 times and 1 dc in next st, 1 tr and 1 dtr in next st, 2 dtr in following st, 1 dtr and 1 tr in next st, 1 dc in next st.  Do not fasten off so you can crochet around ear after inside is worked in darker pink.

1st Ear

Join darker pink cotton 1 st on from end of head.
Row 1: 1 ch, 1 sc in same place as ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 sc in same place as ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch 1 dec sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st.  Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 dec sc over both sts.  Fasten off.

With the lighter pink work hdc around the ear.  Fasten off.

2nd Ear

Miss 11 sts and join darker pink cotton
Row 1: 1 ch, 1 sc in same place as ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 sc in same place as ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch 1 sc in same st as ch, 1 dec sc over next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch 1 dec sc over both sts.  Fasten off.

Join lighter pink and work hdc around the ear.

Body

Row 1: Ch 7, 4 dc into 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 6 dc in last ch, 1 dc in back of next 2 ch, 1 dc in 1st ch, sl st into top of ch.

Row 2: 3 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 2 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in each of next 6 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in each st to end.  Sl st into 3rd ch.

Row 3: 3 ch, tr in same place as ch. (1 tr in next st, 2 tr in following st) 3 times, 1 tr in next st, 1 tr and 1 dc in following st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc and 1 tr in next st, (1 tr in next st, 2 tr in following st) 3 times, 1 tr in next st, 1 tr and 1 dc in following st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.

Row 4: 3 ch, 1 dc in next st, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in next st, 2 tr in following st, 1 tr in next st, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in next st, 2 tr in following st, 1 tr in next st, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Join with a sl st.  Fasten off.

Snout

Make a magic loop.
1 ch, 2 sc, 2 dc, 3 sc, 2 dc, 1 sc, Join with a sl st in 1st ch.  Fasten off.

Crochet pig nose

Outer Eyes (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.
1 ch, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 hdc. Sl st into 1st ch.  Fasten off.

Inner Eyes (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.
1 ch work 2 sc in circle.  Join with a sl st into 1st ch.  Fasten off.

Front left leg

Make a magic loop.
3 ch, work 4 dc into loop.  Pull tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2: 3 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 3: 3 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 4: 3 ch, 1 dec dc over 1st 2 sts.  1 dc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Crochet pig small leg

Back left leg

Make a magic loop.
3 ch, work 5 dc into loop.  Pull tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2: 3 ch, 1 dc in same st as ch 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 3: 3 ch, 1 dec dc in 1st 2 sts 1 dc in each st to last 2, 1 dec dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 4: 3 ch, 1 dec dc in 1st 2 sts 1 dc in each st to last 2, 1 dec dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 5: 3 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Fasten off.

To make up

Weave in ends.  Stitch inner eyes to outer eyes.

Embroider on markings on snout.

Crochet pig finished nose

Position snout to head with the middle of the top just over the centre circle and sew on.

Sew on eyes just above the snout.

Embroider on mouth.

Attach the head to the body.

Once the head is stitched on work out where you start the front right leg and crochet it on.

Join yarn where shown.

Row 1: 4 ch, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in next st.  Turn.
Row 2: 3 ch, 1 dc in next 3 sts.  Turn.  Fasten off.

Attach the front left leg and back left legs to the body.

Crochet the back-right leg in between the left legs.

Join yarn to body where shown.
2 ch, 1 hdc in same place as ch, 2 hdc in next st.  Fasten off.

Crochet pig fourth leg

Join Black for trotter

3 ch, 1 hdc in same st, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Crochet pig with feetTail

Join yarn to body.
12 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st into each ch, join with a sl st to body.  Fasten off.

Crochet on the tail and curl the tail around and stitch together.
