Today I will be bringing another crochet barnyard animal as requested on FaceBook. I will be showing you the crochet sheep pattern and tutorial for this sheep.

Sheep Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • dc – double crochet
  • htr – half treble crochet
  • tr – treble crochet
  • dtr – double treble crochet
  • ttr – triple treble crochet

Materials Used

  • Grey, black and white cotton or wool.
  • Crochet hook.
  • Scissors.
  • Darning needle to weave in the ends.
  • Black, white and grey sewing thread.
  • Sewing needle to stitch together.

Purchasing Supplies

Head

Make a magic loop.
Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 tr into loop and pull tight. Sl st into 3rd ch.
Row 2: 3 ch. Work 1 tr in same place as the ch and 2 tr into each tr around. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 3: 3 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch. Work 1 tr in each of next 2 tr and 2 tr in following tr * repeat from * to * to end, sl st in 3rd ch.  Don’t end off.

1st Ear

Row 1: 2 ch, 2 htr in each of next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch, dec htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 3: 2 ch, dec htr over all sts.  Fasten off.

2nd Ear

Row 1: 2 ch, 2 htr in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts. dec htr over last 2 sts Turn.
Row 3: 2 ch, dec htr over all sts.  Fasten off.

Nose

Make a magic loop.
2 ch, a 4 htr cluster in circle. Pull circle tight but don’t join. Fasten off.

Outer Eyes (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.
3 ch, a 3 tr cluster in circle.  Pull tight. Don’t join.  Fasten off. Crochet sheep outer eyes

Inner Eyes (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.
1 ch, 2 dc into circle.  Join with a sl st.  Fasten off.

Top knot

10 ch.

3 dtr in 5th ch from hook, 4 ch and sl st into same st as dtr. (Sl st into next st, 4 ch, 1 dtr into same st as ch, 1 dtr into next st, 4 ch and sl st into same place as ch) repeat once sl st into last st, 4 ch, 3 dtr into same place as ch, 4 ch, sl st into same place as dtr, sl st into back of 1st ch and work (4 ch, 1 dtr into same st as ch, 1 dtr into next st, 4 ch and sl st into same place as ch, sl st into next st) repeat once. Fasten off.

Body

Make a magic loop.
Row 1: (3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, sl st into circle) repeat 5 times. Join into bottom of 3 ch.

Row 2: Sl st into side back of 1st cluster, 3 ch, sl st into other side back of same cluster, (3 ch, sl st into nearest side back of next cluster, 3 ch, sl st into other side back of same cluster,) repeat around sl st into base of 1st loop.

Row 3: Sl st into 1st 3 ch loop, (3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, sl st into same place as tr, sl st into next loop) repeat around, sl st into bottom of 1st cluster.

Row 4: 1 ch sl st into middle of 1st cluster, (3 ch, sl st into middle of next cluster) repeat around sl st into base of 1st 3 ch loop.

Row 5:  Sl st into 1st 3 ch loop, (3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, sl st into same place as tr, sl st into next loop) repeat around, sl st into bottom of 1st cluster.

Row 6: Sl st into side back of 1st cluster, 3 ch, sl st into other side back of same cluster, (3 ch, sl st into nearest side back of next cluster, 3 ch, sl st into other side back of same cluster,) repeat around sl st into base of 1st 3 ch loop.

Row 7: Sl st into 1st 3 ch loop, (3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, sl st into same place as tr, sl st into next loop) repeat around, sl st into bottom of 1st cluster.

Row 8: 1 ch sl st into middle of 1st cluster, (3 ch, sl st into middle of next cluster) repeat around sl st into base of 1st 3 ch loop.

Row 9: Sl st into 1st 3 ch loop, (3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, sl st into same place as tr, sl st into next loop) repeat around, sl st into bottom of 1st cluster.  Fasten off.

Front Foot (Make 2)

Row 1: 7 ch, Miss 3 ch, 1 tr in each ch to end.  Turn.
Row 2: 3 ch, 1 tr in each st to end.  Turn.
Row 3: 3 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 1 tr in each st to end.  Turn.

Change to Black cotton

Row 3: 3 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 1 tr in each st to end. Fasten off.

Back Foot (Make 2)

Row 1: 6 ch, Miss 3 ch, 1 tr in each ch to end.  Turn.
Row 2: 3 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 1 tr in each st to end.  Turn

Change to Black cotton

Row 3: 3 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 1 tr in each st to end. Fasten off.

To make up

Weave in ends.  Attach the inner eye to the outer eye as shown.

Stitch the nose onto the face just covering over the centre circle of the face.  Embroider on a mouth.

Attach the eyes slightly above and each side of the nose.

Attach the face to the body slightly above centre.

Stitch topknot to the head as shown.

Stitch the front legs to the body where shown and then attach the back legs behind the front legs.
