Welcome to my crochet galah pattern. This pattern was a request. This is what the finished galah applique will look like.

Crochet Galah Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- dtr – double treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness of crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (398) Colonial Rose, (074) Mercury, (238) Powder Pink and (242) Metal Gray.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Sewing thread and a needle to stitch the galah together.
- Black thread or a black bead for the eye.
Size
Large galah (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
18.5cm wide x 20cm high or 7.25” wide x 8” high
Medium galah (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
11cm wide x 13cm high or 4.25” wide x 5” high
Small galah (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
8cm wide x 9cm high or 3” wide x 3.5” high
Eye Area
Using (074) Mercury work 3 ch. I left a long tail at the beginning and end to use for the top and bottom beaks.
Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr and 1 dc in last ch. Fasten off.
Crest
Join (238) Powder Pink to the missed ch from the eye area and work 5 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 2 tr in following ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of same st as join and next st, 2 dc in following st, 1 dc in end of eye area. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 htr in next st, 2 tr in following st, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in following st, (2 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next st) 2 times. Fasten off.
Top Beak
Join (074) Mercury to 1st st of row 2 of the crest.
2 ch, work a joined htr over same st as join and next st. 1 ch. Fasten off.
Head & Body
Join (398) Colonial Rose to 1st st of the eye area, near the beak.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts across the eye area, 2 htr in the back of next ch, 1 dc in the back of following ch, 2 htr in back of next ch. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 3 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 htr in following st, a joined htr over next 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 4: 2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 htr in each of following 2 sts, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (9 sts)

Row 12: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 13: 2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 5 sts, 1 dc and 1 htr in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in each of following 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Bottom Beak
Join (074) Mercury to st after top beak.
2 ch, work a joined htr over same st as join and next st. Fasten off.
Body Neatening Row
Join (398) Colonial Rose to st after bottom beak.
Work 1 sl st in each st to 2nd last st down 1st side, 1 ch, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts, 1 ch, sl st in same st as last dc, 1 sl st in each st to crest. Fasten off.
Tail
Join (074) Mercury 4 sts up from end st of the body where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, work a joined dc over same st as join and next st, 1 dc in each of following 4 sts, a joined dc over next 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work a joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 5: Sl st in front loop of 1st 2 sts, 14 ch.
Row 6: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of following 7 sts, 1 htr in each remaining ch and in the side of the dc, sl st in each st to back. Fasten off.
Join (242) Metal Gray in the back loop of 1st st of row 4.
15 ch.
Row 1: Miss 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 2 ch, 1 dc in each remaining ch, sl st in back loop of next st. Turn.
Row 2: Work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st, 3 ch.
Row 3: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, 1 sl st in each st. Fasten off.
Front Wing
Join (238) Powder Pink about 5 stitches down the back from the crest.
12 ch.
Miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in same st on the body as join. Fasten off.
Join (398) Colonial Rose to the missed chain at end of powder pink where shown.
4 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch, working into the back loop of the ch of the powder pink work 1 dc in each of next 7 sts, 2 htr in following st, 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Sl st in the body. (14 sts)
Row 2: 5 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in last st of row 1.
Rows 3-4: 5 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in next st of row 1.
Rows 5-10: 4 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in next st of row 1.
Rows 11-14: 3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in next st of row 1.
Row 15: 3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in last st of row 1. Fasten off.
Light Grey Wing Part
Using (074) Mercury work 18 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (17 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.
Row 3: 5 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in last st of row 2.
Rows 4-17: 5 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in next st of row 2.
Row 18: 4 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in next st of row 2.
Row 19: 3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in last st of row 2. Fasten off.
Dark Grey Part of Wing
Using (242) Metal Gray work 14 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 3: 9 ch, work 2 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch. Sl st in last st of row 2. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 4: Work 1 sl st in front loop only of each of 1st 4 sts, 1 dc in front loop only of each of next 4 sts. 2 ch. (8 sts + 2 ch)
Row 5: Work 2 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in back loop of each of next 4 sts, 1 sl st in each of following 4 sts, sl st in 1st st of row 2. Turn.
Row 6: Work 1 sl st in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 dc in front loop only of each of next 4 sts. 2 ch. (8 sts + 2 ch)

Row 19: Work 2 htr in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in last ch, 1 dc in back loop of each of next 8 sts, sl st in next st of row 2. Turn.
Row 20: Work 1 dc in front loop only of each of next 9 sts. 4 ch. (9 sts + 4 ch)
Row 21: Work 2 htr in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in each remaining ch, 1 dc in back loop of each of next 9 sts, sl st in next st of row 2. Turn.
Row 22: Work 1 dc in front loop only of each of next 10 sts. 5 ch. (10 sts + 5 ch)
Row 23: Work 2 htr in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in each remaining ch, 1 dc in back loop of each of next 10 sts, sl st in next st of row 2. Turn.
Row 24: Work 1 dc in front loop only of each of next 11 sts. 8 ch. (11 sts + 8 ch)
Row 25: Miss 1st ch, work 1 htr in each remaining ch, 1 dc in back loop of each of next 11 sts. Sl st in next st of row 2. Turn.
Row 26: Work 1 dc in front loop only of each of next 11 st. 6 ch. (11 sts + 6 ch)
Row 27: Miss 1st ch, work 1 htr in each remaining ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in back loop of each of next 10 sts. Sl st in next st of row 2. Turn.
Row 28: Work 1 dc in front loop only of each of next 11 sts. 4 ch. (11 sts + 4 ch)
Row 29: Miss 1st ch, work 1 htr in each remaining ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in back loop of each of next 10 sts. Sl st in last st of row 2. Fasten off.
Back Wing
Using (074) Mercury work 22 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each of next 8 ch, 2 dc in each of following 2 ch, 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (23 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 11 sts, 2 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc in each of following 6 sts. 6 ch. (23 sts + 6 ch)
Row 3: Miss 1st ch, work 1 htr in each remaining ch, 1 dc in back loop only of each of next 9 sts, 2 dc in following st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 14 sts, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in front loop only of each of following 8 sts. 8 ch. (24 sts + 8 ch)
Row 5: Miss 1st ch, work 1 htr in each remaining ch, 1 dc in back loop only of each of next 7 sts, 2 dc in following st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 15 sts, 1 htr in front loop only of next 4 sts, 1 dc in front loop only of each of following 4 sts. 6 ch.
Row 7: Miss 1st ch, work 1 htr in each remaining ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in back loop only of each of next 7 sts, 1 sl st in each st to end. Turn.
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each of 1st 13 sts, 1 dc in front loop only of each of next 7 sts, 4 ch.
Row 9: Miss 1st ch, work 1 htr in each remaining ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in back loop only of each of next 7 sts, sl st in following st. Fasten off.
Back Leg
Using (398) Colonial Rose make a magic loop.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 2 dc in circle. Pull circle tight. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
Claws (Make 2)
Join (242) Metal Gray to the middle end of the leg.
8 ch, miss 2 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, sl st in same st as last dc, 5 ch, 1 sl st in 3rd ch from hook, 3 ch, sl st in same st as last sl st, 1 dc in each st to leg, sl st in the leg. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider a black eye in the middle of the eye area.
Stitch the tail pieces together.
Embroider feathers to the top of the tail.
Stitch the 3 front wing pieces together.
Sew the back wing in behind the front wing and the body where shown.
Attach the back leg in behind the front leg and body.
