Welcome to my crochet double-decker bus pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished double-decker bus applique will look like.

Crochet Double-Decker Bus Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (517) Ruby, (115) Hot Red, (509) Baby Blue, (247) Bluebird, (074) Mercury, (106) Snow White and (110) Black.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Thread and needle to stitch the wheels on the bus.
- Yellow thread to embroider on the rails.
- Scissors.

Size
Large bus (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
20cm wide x 10.5cm high or 8” wide x 4” high
Medium bus (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
12cm wide x 7cm high or 4.75” wide x 2.75” high
Small bus (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
10cm wide x 6cm high or 4” wide x 2.25” high
Bus Body
Using (517) Ruby work 29 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (28 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (26 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 24 sts, a joined dc and htr over last 2 sts. Fasten off but leave yarn joined.

Join (115) Hot Red to 1st st worked of row 3:

Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 25 sts, working over the (517) Ruby to take to bottom of piece work 2 dc in each of next 2 sts down the side, 1 dc in last st even with original ch. Turn.

Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each st to end. Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row
Turn work before neatening row.
Using the colours of the piece work 1 ch, 1 dc in each of 1st 24 sts, 1 sl st in each st to bottom, 1 dc, 1 ch and 1 dc in each corner st, 1 dc in each st on straight edges to end of the (517) Ruby at back. Fasten off.

Bottom Windows
Join (509) Baby Blue to 1st st of bus body where shown.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each of next 19 sts. Turn. (20 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (20 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Fasten off.

Neatening Row
Join (115) Hot Red to last st of neatening row of bus body.

Work 1 dc in each st on straight edges, 1 dc, 1 ch and 1 dc in corner sts, to bottom of window. Join with a sl st in bus body. Fasten off.

Join (517) Ruby to last st of window neatening row.

Work 1 dc in each of 1st 5 sts along top front, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts. Fasten off.

Window Frame
Join (517) Ruby to top of window neatening row.

1 ch, work 1 dc in each of the 4 sts down the side. Join with a sl st in corner. Fasten off.

Front Window
Join (247) Bluebird to 1st st up front of window frame where shown.

Row 1: Work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st, sl st in each of next 2 sts in the side of window frame. Turn.
Row 3: Work 1 dc in each st. Fasten off.

Neatening Row
Join (517) Ruby to top of window neatening row.

Work 1 dc in each st on straight edges, 1 dc, 1 ch and 1 dc in corner st, to bottom of window. Join with a sl st in bus body. Fasten off.

Join (115) Hot Red to top end of front window frame.

3 ch.
Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch and each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Fasten off.

Back Platform
Join (517) Ruby to 2nd st at side bottom of bus back.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each of next 8 sts up the side of back, sl st in point of back. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 2: Work 1 dc in each of the 9 sts. Turn. (9 sts)
Rows 3-6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to corner, 1 dc, 1 ch and 1 dc in corner, 1 dc in each st to Hot Red, sl st in Hot Red. Fasten off.

Step
Join (517) Ruby to 1st st left at back of bus.

Work 1 dc in each st along bottom of platform. Fasten off.

White Stripe
Join (106) Snow White to 1st st at top end of platform.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Fasten off.

Top Deck
Turn Work.
Join (115) Hot Red to 1st Snow White st.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same at as join, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Don’t fasten off. Leave attached for neatening row.

Top Window
Turn work.
Join (509) Baby Blue to 2nd st of top deck where shown.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each st to 2nd last st. Miss last st. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the (115) Hot Red left from the beginning of the top deck work 1 dc in each st around. Join with a sl st in last st at front of top deck. Fasten off.


Wheels (make 2)
Using (074) Mercury make a magic loop.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 6 dc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 1st st.

Join in (110) Black and fasten off the Mercury.
Row 2: 2 ch, work 2 tr in each st. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.

To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider window markings on windows using the Hot Red and Ruby.

Embroider step marking and front marking to bus using the black.

Embroider rail and handrail on back platform.

Stitch the wheels to bus.
