Welcome to my crochet cricket pitch pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished cricket pitch applique will look like.

Crochet Cricket Pitch Pattern

Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr – treble crochet

Materials Used 

  • Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (404) English Tea, (106) Snow White, (179) Topaz, (115) Hot Red and (110) Black.
  • A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
  • A darning needle to weave in ends.
  • Scissors.
  • Cream thread and a needle to embroider markings on the ball.
  • A small amount of stuffing to stuff the ball if desired.

Crochet cricket pitch 2 ply cotton

Size

Large cricket pitch (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

16cm wide x 24cm high or 6” wide x 9.5” high

Medium cricket pitch (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

11cm wide x 16cm high or 4.5” wide x 6.5” high

Small cricket pitch (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

6cm wide x 13cm high or 2.5” wide x 5” high

Pitch

Using (404) English Tea work 14 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 3:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st, 1 hdc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Rows 4-30:  Repeat rows 2 and 3 13 times and then row 2 once.

Row 31:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st, 1 hdc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st on straight edges and 1 sc, 1 ch and 1 sc in each corner st.  Join with a sl st in 1st ch.  Fasten off.

Pitch Markings (Work at each end)

Join (106) Snow White to 1st st at bottom of neatening row of long end where shown.

1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in front loop of each of next 8 sts.  Work enough chain to go across to the front loop of the 9th stitch from the end of the other side and join in that st.  1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join and 1 sc in front loop of each st to end of row.  Fasten off.  I left a longer tail to stitch it down.

Stumps (Make 6)

Using (179) Topaz work 10 ch.

Miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch.  Fasten off.  I left a long tail at each end to secure it behind.

Bails (Make 2)

Using (179) Topaz work 6 ch.

Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in following ch, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch.  Fasten off leaving a long tail to stitch the sides together and stitch the bails to the stumps.

Cricket Ball

Using (115) Hot Red make a magic loop.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 4 sc in circle, pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  (4 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in each st, join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  (8 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  (8 sts)

I embroidered 2 rows of stitches around rows 2 and 3 of the ball for the seam.

 

Row 4:  1 ch, (work a joined sc over next 2 sts) 4 times, join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off leaving a long tail to weave the end together.

Cricket Bat

Handle

Using (110) Black work 13 ch.

Miss 1st st, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch.  Fasten off.

Bat

Using (179) Topaz work 10 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 2 ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work 1 dc in each st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last dc.  Fasten off.  I left a long tail to stitch it together.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the markings down.

Using (106) Snow White work enough chain to go across from the markings at the sides and stitch them down between the 3rd stitches from end on each side.

Using (106) Snow White work enough chain to go between the cross markings on each side and stitch them down (you will need 4).

Join the sides of the bails together and then attach them to the top of the stumps (you will have 3 stumps with each bail).

Attach the stumps in the gap in the markings (I left my stumps standing up, but you could stitch them down if you prefer.

Put a small amount of stuffing in the ball if desired and then close in the end.  Put the bat handle into the bat and then stitch along the bottom and up the side.
