I recently decorated a towel as a gift for a beautiful baby boy. I’d decorated a towel with a train and animal passengers for the older brother, so I wanted to give this new baby a different towel.
The appliques were all crocheted using Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush 2 ply crochet cotton which is lovely to work with and thin enough to be easily sewn to the towel using a sewing machine.
The appliques I used are the log truck, the jeep, two cars in different colours, the cement mixer and the tractor.
I arranged the appliques with the tractor first as I thought it would be the slowest and hold up all the other vehicles. I used a variety of bright colours on a light blue towel and tried to space them out evenly with vehicles of the same colours apart.
To sew the appliques to the towel I filled the bobbin with the same light blue as the towel and for the top cotton, I used the colour of the appliques. I found it quick and easy to stitch the appliques down and the top colour doesn’t show through to the back.
The baby card was made using the teddy bear applique worked using Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush. I printed the wording on some card, folded the card and then cut it into the size I wanted using a paper trimmer. I hand stitched the teddy to the card so it could easily be removed to be added to something else.
