Today I will be showing you the free crochet train caboose pattern and uploading the train caboose crochet pattern how-to video tutorial to Youtube for you to follow.

Crochet Train Caboose Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- dtr – double treble crochet
Materials Used
- Small amounts of desired colours of cotton or wool, I used 4 colours, red, black, yellow and grey.
- Crochet hook, I used a 1.25mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Sewing thread and needle to stitch the caboose together.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
Body
Ch. 27.
Row 1: Miss 1 ch. 1 dc in each ch to end. Turn.
Rows 2 – 4: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 5: Sl st over 1st 8 sts, 1 ch, 1 dc over each st to last 2 sts, miss these 2 sts. Turn.
Row 6: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end missing the last 8 sts you sl stitched over. Turn.
Rows 7 – 15: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 16: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Don’t turn.
Edging
1 ch, then work dc around edge. Sl st into 1st ch. Fasten off.
Roof
35 ch (I do more than I think I will need and undo the left over chain).
Row 1: 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 8 ch, holding ch against body of caboose as shown dc through the ch and body across top. 1 dc in each of next 3 ch. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st across. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st across. Fasten off.
Railing
Join cotton to back landing where shown.
6 ch, (miss 1 st, 1 dtr in next st, 2 ch) repeat to end, sl st into train body.
Wheels (Make 2)
Using contrasting colour make a magic loop.
ch 1, work 8 dc into loop. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in ch.
Join main wheel colour.
Row 1: 3 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 2 tr in each st around. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 2: 3 ch, (1 tr in next st, 2 tr in following st) repeat to end. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch. Fasten off.
Window
7 ch.
Row 1: 1 dc in 2nd st from hook, 1 dc in each ch to end. Turn.
Rows 2 – 5: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 6: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch work dc around window. Sl st in ch. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in endings. Attach window to caboose.
Stitch the wheels to caboose.
Crochet chain to fit between the wheels and attach if desired.
