The next crochet pattern I will be making is a crochet ship. The ship is going to look like this once it’s finished.

This pattern is going to use UK terminology. I do have a US version available at Ship Crochet Pattern (US version) if you would like to used the US terminology.

Ship Crochet Pattern 

Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

  • Small amounts of 4 colours of cotton or wool.
  • A crochet hook.
  • Scissors.
  • A darning needle to weave in your ends.
  • White sewing cotton.
  • A needle to attach the windows.

Hull

30 ch.
Row 1: Dc in 2nd ch from hook, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Crochet ship, beginning hull, increase stitch

Rows 2 – 7: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end working a dc in between the last dc and 1 ch.  Turn.

Change to 1st contrasting colour if desired

Rows 8 – 9: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end working a dc in between the last dc and 1 ch.  Turn.

Rows 10 – 11: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end working a dc in between the last dc and 1 ch.  Turn.

Rows 12 – 15: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end working a dc in between the last dc and 1 ch.  Turn.
Row 16: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 8 sts, a dec dc over next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 17: 1 ch, dec dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end working a dc in between the last dc and 1 ch.  Turn.
Row 18: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, work a dec dc over these 2 sts. Turn.
Row 19: 1 ch, 1 dec dc in 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, work a dec dc over these 2 sts. Turn.
Row 20: 1 ch, 1 dec dc in 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, work a dec dc over these 2 sts. Turn.
Row 21: 1 ch, 1 dec dc in 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, a dec dc over last 2 sts.

Neaten Edges

1 ch, work dc around the entire hull and sl st into 1st ch. Fasten off.

Ship Top

Join cotton 8 sts in from back of boat.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end, sl st into side. Sl st into next st on side. Turn.

Rows 4 – 8: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 9: sl st over 1st 6 sts, 1 ch 1 dc in same place as last sl st, 1 dc in each st to last 5 sts. Turn.
Rows 10 – 12: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 13: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Fasten off.

Join cotton to where you started the ship top and work 1 dc in each st around. Fasten off.

Windows (Make 5)

Ch 4.
Row 1: miss 1st ch, 1 dc in each of remaining 3 ch, Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Fasten off.

Funnels

Join yarn 3 sts in on ship top.
Row 1: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of next 5 sts.  Turn.
Rows 2 – 4: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of next 5 sts.  Turn.
Row 5: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of next 5 sts. Fasten off.

2nd Funnel

Join yarn 8 sts in from other end.

Rows 2 – 4: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of next 5 sts.  Turn.

Flag Pole

Join yarn 3 sts in from end of boat hull.
ch 10, (or desired amount) miss 1 ch, 1 dc in each ch to end, sl st into boat hull.

Join yarn to 4th st from top of flag pole.
Row 1: 1 ch, 1 dc in next 4 sts, turn.
Row 2 – 4: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 5: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in endings.  Attach 2 windows to the top storey of the ship and 3 windows to the bottom storey as shown.
