Llama Crochet Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- dtr – double treble crochet
Materials Used
- I used 4 colours of 4 ply crochet cotton, 1 for the llama and 3 for the saddle but you could use wool if you prefer.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1.25mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Thread and sewing needle to stitch the saddle onto the llama.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Black sewing or embroidery cotton to embroider on the eye, nose and mouth.
Head
5 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (8 sts)
Rows 9-13: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Chain 22
Row 15: Miss 1st ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (30 sts)
Row 16: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (30 sts)
Row 17: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (29 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (29 sts)
Row 19: 1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (30 sts)
Row 20: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (28 sts)
Row 21: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (28 sts)
Row 22: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (28 sts)
Row 23: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (28 sts)
Row 24: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (27 sts)
Back Leg
Row 25: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts, 1 joined dc over next 2 sts. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 26: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 27: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 28: 1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 29: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 30: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 31: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 32: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 33: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 34: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 35: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 36: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 37: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Fasten off.
Front Leg
Miss 1st st after back leg and join cotton in next st.
Row 1: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over next 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, 2 joined dc over 1st 4 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of next 5 sts, 1 joined dc over next 3 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, 1 dc in each st around to about 5 sts before the start of the back, work 2 htr in next st, 2 tr in each st around to the st after the start of the back, 2 htr in next st and 1 dc in each st around to the start of the row. Fasten off.
Muzzle
Join cotton to front of head as shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over all sts. Fasten off.
Ear
Join cotton to top of head as shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 dc in 1st st, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over all sts. Fasten off.
Back Foot
Join cotton to bottom of back leg as shown.
7 ch.
Miss 1st 2 ch, 1 htr in each of next 2 ch, 3 dc in next st, 1 dc in each st to end. Sl st into leg. Fasten off.
Front Foot
Join cotton to bottom of front leg as shown.
8 ch.
Miss 1st 2 ch, 1 htr in each of next 2 ch, 3 dc in next st, 1 dc in each st to end. Sl st into leg. Fasten off.
Saddle
10 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Rows 2-5: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 6: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end. Fasten off.
Join 1st contrast to top as shown
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st down the side, work 2 dc into corner st, 1 dc in each st along bottom, work 2 dc into corner st, work 1 dc in each st to top. Fasten off.
Join 2nd contrast as shown
2 ch, work 1 htr in each st down the side, work 2 htr into corner st, 1 htr in each st along bottom, work 2 htr into corner st, work 1 htr in each st to top. Fasten off.
Join 1st contrast to top as shown
1 ch, work 1 dc in next st, (work 2 ch and 1 dc in next st) repeat around to top, work 1 dc in each st along top. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider an eye, nose and mouth on llama.
Stitch the saddle on the llama’s back.
