Welcome to this weeks crochet pattern and tutorial. Today I’ll be showing how to make this Girl with a Basket of Flowers Crochet pattern. Once finished the appliqué will look like this.

This pattern will be using UK terminology. If you would like to get the US version go to Girl with a Basket of Flowers Crochet Pattern (US Version).
I’ve also made a crochet boy with a fishing rod to go with the girl.
Girl with basket of flowers Crochet Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- dtr – double treble crochet
Materials Used
- I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat colours (390) Poppy Rose, (106) Snow White, (110) Jet Black, (606) Grass Green, (130) Old Lace and (215) Royal Blue.
- Crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Thread and sewing needle to sew the girl together.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Beads if desired for centre of flowers and a needle that will fit through bead.
- Thin ribbon if desired to tie the hair.
Size
Medium girl (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
7.5cm x 12.5cm or 3” x 5”
Small goat (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
7cm x 11cm or 2.75” x 4.5”
Dress
6 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Rows 2-5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 6: 1 ch, 1 dec. dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc, 1 dec dc over last 2 sts. Turn.
Rows 7-8: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of 3 sts. Turn.
Row 9: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of 3 sts. Fasten off.
Skirt
Join cotton to back of 1st ch at bottom of bodice.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 2 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to last st, work 3 htr in last st. Turn.
Rows 2-7: 2 ch, work 2 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to last st, work 2 htr in last st. Turn.
Rows 8-11: 2 ch, work 1 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to last st, work 2 htr in last st. Turn.
Row 12: 2 ch, work 1 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to end. Turn.
Row 13: 2 ch, 1 joined htr over 1st 2 sts, work 1 htr in each st to last 2 sts. 1 Joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 14: 2 ch, 2 joined htrs over next 4 sts, 1 htr in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined htr over last 2 sts.
Row 15: 2 ch, 1 joined htr over 1st 2 sts, work 1 htr in each st to last 2 sts. 1 Joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 16: 2 ch, work a joined htr over the next 2 sts, 2 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 htr in following st, 1 htr in next st, work 2 tr in the next st, 1 dtr in following st, 1 tr in next st and 1 htr in following st, work joined htrs over remaining sts. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Dress
1 ch work 1 or 2 dc in each st around dress making sure the dress stays flat. Join with a sl st in ch. Fasten off.
Sleeve
Make a magic loop.
Row 1: Work 2 ch and 4 htr in circle. Pull circle tight but don’t join. Turn.
Rows 2-5: 2 ch, 1 htr in each st. Turn.
Row 6: 2 ch, 2 htr in same place as ch, 1 htr in next st, joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 7: 2 ch, a joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, 2 htr in last st. Turn.
Row 8: 2 ch, 2 htr in same place as ch, 1 htr in next st, joined htr over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Hand
Make a magic loop.
4 ch, 3 dtr cluster into circle. Pull circle tight and fasten off.
Apron
7 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st 2 ch and work 1 htr in remaining ch. Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch, 3 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to last st, work 3 htr in last st. Turn.
Rows 3-4: 2 ch, 2 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn.
Row 5: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn.
Row 6: 2 ch, 2 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to end. Turn.
Row 7: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn.
Row 8: 2 ch, 2 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to end. Turn.
Rows 9-10: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, work 1 htr in each st to end. Turn.
Row 11: 2 ch, 1 joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 12: 2 ch, 1 joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined htr over last 2 sts. Don’t fasten off.
Neaten Edge
1 ch, work 1 or 2 dc in each st around. Join with a sl st in ch. Fasten off.
Ties for Apron
7 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in next st and 1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 6 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in following st, 1 dc in remaining st and into top of dc from 1st tie part.
Join to apron by working 1 dc in each st along top. Fasten off.
Hat
Make a magic loop.
Row 1: Into circle work 2 ch and 4 htr. Don’t join. Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, 2 htr in each of remaining sts. Turn.
Row 3: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 2 htr in following st, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts and 2 htr in last st. Turn.
Row 4: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, 1 htr in each st across. Turn.
Row 5: 2 ch, 2 htr in same place as ch, (1 htr in next st and 2 htr in following st) repeat across to last st, work 3 htr in last st. Turn.
Row 6: 2 ch, 2 htr in same place as ch, (1 htr in next st and 2 htr in following st) repeat across to last st, work 3 htr in last st. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch work 1 dc in each st around the hat until you get to the brim. Fasten off.
Trim for Hat
Make enough ch to fit just above brim of hat. Fasten off.
Basket
6 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end of row. Turn.
Rows 2-3: 2 ch, 2 htr in same place as ch, 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn.
Row 4: 2 ch, 2 htr in same place as ch, 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. 22 ch and join to other side of top of basket. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Basket
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st around the handle, the sides and bottom of basket. Fasten off.
Flowers
Make a magic loop.
Into circle work 1 ch, 1 dc (2 ch, 1 dc) 4 times 2 ch and sl st in 1st ch. Pull circle tight and fasten off.
Leaves
Make a magic loop.
Into circle work 3 ch and 2 tr cluster, pull circle tight and fasten off.
Plait
Make 3 strips of 22 ch. Fasten off.
Weave in ends on one end but leave the other on to tie the 3 strips together.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch trim to hat where shown.
Sew the apron to the dress with the top of apron at the girl’s waist and making sure the apron covers the front of the dress until near the bottom of the apron.
Tie the 3 strips of chain for the hair together and plait.
Position the sleeve to near the top of the bodice and work out where the hand and basket will be positioned.
(The basket is stitched under the hand and the hand is stitched under the sleeve)
Sew the leaves on to the basket and then attach the flowers.
Stitch the hair under the hat.
Sew the hat onto the top of the dress.
