Welcome to my crochet wallaby pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished wallaby applique will look like.

Crochet Wallaby Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton color (074) Mercury.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Black embroidery thread to embroider on the eye if desired.
Size
Large wallaby (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
14cm wide x 8cm high or 5.5” wide x 3” high
Medium wallaby (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
10.5cm wide x 6cm high or 4” wide x 3” high
Small wallaby (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
8cm wide x 5cm high or 3” wide x 2” high
Head & Body
Using (074) Mercury make a magic loop.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in circle. Pull circle tight. Turn. (1 st)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 3 sc in st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts, miss last st. Ear will be worked in st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, 3 sc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 8 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 12: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts. Miss last st. Arm will be worked here. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 13: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (12 sts)
Rows 15-16: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 17: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 19: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 20: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts, miss remaining sts. Leg will be worked here. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 21: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 22: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 23: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Don’t fasten off.
Tail
15 ch.
Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch, 1 sc in following ch, 1 hdc in next ch, 2 hdc in following ch, 1 hdc in next ch, (2 dc in following ch, 1 dc in next ch) 2 times, 1 dc in following ch, 1 tr in next ch, a joined tr over last 2 ch, sl st in 1st st of row 23. Don’t fasten off. Sl st to 1st st left for back leg.
Back Leg
14 ch.
Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 3 ch, 1 hdc in each of following 3 ch, 1 dc in next ch, a joined dc over following 4 ch, 1 dc in each remaining ch, join to end of row 19. Don’t fasten off. Sl st in each st to sts left for arm.
Arm
5 ch.
Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in each remaining ch, sl st in corner of row 11. Sl st in each st around to sts left for the ear.
Ear
3 ch.
Work a sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in last ch. Sl st in the side of head. Sl st in each st to tail. Fasten off.
Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider on an eye if desired.
