Welcome to my crochet toadstool pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished toadstool applique will look like.

Crochet Toadstools Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (115) Hot Red, (254) Moon Rock and (404) English Tea.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- White embroidery thread to embroider on the spots.
Size
Large toadstools (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
11.5cm wide x 11.5cm high or 4.5” wide x 4.5” high
Medium toadstools (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
6.5cm wide x 6.5cm high or 2.5” wide x 2.5” high
Small toadstools (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
5cm wide x 5cm high or 2” wide x 2” high
Large Toadstool Cap
Using (115) Hot Red work 6 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 dc, 1 tr and 1 dc in following ch, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 5 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 2 hdc and 1 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts, 1 sc and 2 hdc in last st. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 4: 2 ch, work 2 hdc and 1 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 11 sts, 1 sc and 2 hdc in last st. Turn. (17 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 16 sts, 1 sc and 2 hdc in last st. Turn. (19 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (19 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (19 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sl st in each of next 7 sts, 1 sc in following st, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc in each of following 4 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Don’t fasten off, it will be used for neatening row.
Underneath of Toadstool
Turn work and join (254) Moon Rock to sc after sl sts where shown.
Work 1 sc in each of the sl sts, sl st in next st. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the (115) Hot Red from row 8 work 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each of the red sts along bottom, 1 sl st in back loop only of the brown section, 1 or 2 sc in each st around sides and top of toadstool. Fasten off.
Stem
Join (404) English Tea on wrong side in back loop only in stitch before centre stitch. I left a long tail to use for the neatening row and worked over it for 1st row to take it to the other side.
Row 1: 1 ch, working into back loop only work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, working into back loop only work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Rows 3-4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Rows 8-9: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the tail left at beginning work 1 sc in each st in straight edges and 2 sc in each corner st. Sl st in bottom of cap. Fasten off.
Ring
Join (404) English Tea to 1st front loop left of row 2 of stem.
4 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in same st on stem, 3 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in last ch, sl st in same st on stem, 3 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in last ch, sl st in next st, 4 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in last st on stem. Fasten off.
Small Toadstool Cap
Using (115) Hot Red work 6 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 dc in following ch, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 6 sts, 1 sc and 2 hdc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 or 2 sc in each st around sides and top of toadstool but not along bottom. Fasten off.
Stem
Join (404) English Tea in back loop only in stitch before centre stitch. I left a long tail to use for the neatening row.
Row 1: 1 ch, working into back loop only work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the tail left at beginning work 1 sc in each st in straight edges and 2 sc in each corner st. Sl st in bottom of cap. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider dots on the caps of the toadstools.
