Welcome to my crochet stork pattern. This is another request that I received. The finished stork applique will look like this.

Crochet Stork Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Crochet cotton or wool, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (106) Snow White, (110) Black and (386) Peach.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Sewing thread and needle to stitch the stork together.
- Black thread to embroider on eye marking.
Size
Large stork (Using 8 ply crochet cotton & a 3mm hook)
14cm x 19cm or 5.5” x 7.5”
Medium Stork (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
11cm x 13cm or 4.25” x 5”
Small Stork (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
7.5cm x 10cm or 3” x 4”
Head and Body
Using white work 3 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1 ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st and 1 htr and 1 tr in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 3 ch, work 1 tr in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in following st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 5: 3 ch, work a joined tr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each remaining st. (5 sts)
Start on Neck
Row 6: 1 ch, don’t turn work after row 5, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts along the side of the head as shown. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch. work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 12: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in next st and 1 tr in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 13: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 16: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 17: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 19: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (10 sts)

Row 21: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 22: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 23: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 24: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 25: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 26: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 27: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 28: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 29: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 30: 1 ch work 1 dc in each of 1st 4 sts, sl st into next st, 3 ch, work a joined tr over same st as ch and next st, 3 ch, sl st into same st as last part of joined tr, sl st into next st, 3 ch, work a joined tr over same st as ch and next st, 3 ch, sl st into same st as last part of joined tr. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
Turn work. Work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
Wing
Using white work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Rows 3-7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. (3 sts). Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
Work 1 dc in each st up the side and around curve, sl st into next st, (2 ch, work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next st on wing) repeat to end of row. Fasten off.
Under Wing
Using black work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Rows 3-7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. (3 sts). Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
Work 1 sl st in each st up side and around curve, 2 ch, work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st on wing, 3 ch, miss 1st ch, and work 1 dc in each remaining ch, 1 dc in next st on wing, 4 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch, 1 dc in next st on wing, continue working 1 extra ch for each feather until you have 2 sts left on wing, work 3 less ch than last feather, miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch, work 1 dc in last st on wing. Fasten off.
Tail
Join black cotton 2 sts before point on body as shown.
9 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch, 1 dc in next st on body, 11 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch, 1 dc in next st on body, 9 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch, sl st in next st on body. Fasten off.
Eye
Using black make a magic loop.
2 ch, work 1 htr in circle. Pull circle tight and fasten off.
Beak
Using orange make a magic loop.
Row 1: 3 ch, work 1 tr in circle, pull circle tight. Turn.
Row 2: 3 ch, work 1 tr in st and 1 tr in top of ch. Turn.
Row 3: 3 ch, work 1 tr in each st. Turn.
Row 4: 3 ch, work a joined tr over both sts. Fasten off.
Front Leg
Using orange work 2 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in remaining ch. Turn. (1 st)
Rows 2-5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn. (1 st)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 3 dc in st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 3 sts. Turn. (1 st)
Rows 8-16: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn. (1 st)
Row 17: 5 ch, work 1 sl st in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch, 1 dc in bottom of row 16, 6 ch, work 1 sl st in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch, 1 dc in side of row 16, 6 ch, work 1 sl st in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch, 1 sl st in same place as last dc on leg, 5 ch, work 1 sl st in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch, 1 sl st in same place as last sl st on leg. Fasten off, I leave a longer tail than usual to pull the claws into place.
Back Leg
Using orange work 2 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in remaining ch. Turn. (1 st)
Rows 2-5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn. (1 st)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 3 dc in far edge of st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 3 sts. Turn. (1 st)
Rows 8-14: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn. (1 st)
Row 15: 7 ch, work 1 sl st in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 5 ch, work 1 sl st in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each ch until 2 ch left of original 7 ch, work 4 ch, work 1 sl st in 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 dc in last of 7 ch. sl st in end of row 12. Fasten off, I leave a longer tail than usual to pull the claws into place.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the wing to the top of the under wing as shown.
Sew the wing to the body.
Embroider a black line up the centre of the beak.
Sew the beak to the head.
Stitch the eye to the head and embroider on marking if desired.
Attach front leg to the body.
Stitch the back leg to the body as shown.
