Welcome to my crochet small teddy bear pattern. This is what the finished small teddy bear applique will look like.

Crochet Small Teddy Bear Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush 2 ply crochet cotton colors (162) Black Coffee, (254) Moon Rock, ((105) Bridal White and (110) Black.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook, I use a size or 2 smaller for appliques than I would normally use for the weight yarn.
- Scissors.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Sewing thread and needle to stitch the teddy bear together.
Size
Large teddy bear (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
10.5cm wide x 14cm high or 4” wide x 5.5” high
Medium teddy bear (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
6.5cm wide x 9cm high or 2.5” wide x 3.5” high
Small teddy bear (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
5cm wide x 7cm high or 2” wide x 2.75” high
Head
Using (254) Moon Rock make a magic loop.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 3 hdc, 3 dc, 6 hdc, 3 dc and 3 hdc into circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 hdc in same st as ch, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in following st, 2 dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 2 dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in each remaining st. Sl st in top of 1st st.
Row 3: 2 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 5 sts, 2 dc in each of next 5 sts, 1 dc in each of following 3 sts, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of following 3 sts, 2 dc in each of next 5 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Muzzle
Using (105) Bridal White make a magic loop.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 15 dc in circle, pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Inner Ears
Join (162) Black Coffee 6 sts before the 1st tr on the head.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 4 sts. Fasten off.
Join (162) Black Coffee to the 3rd st after the 2nd tr.
Work 2nd ear the same as 1st ear.
Outer Ears
Join (254) Moon Rock to the st before 1st ear.
Work 1 sc in each st around the ears and 1 sl st in each st between the ears. Fasten off.
Eyes (Make 2)
Using (110) Black make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 4 sc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Nose
Using (110) Black make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 3 sc in circle. Pull the circle tight and fasten off.
Body
Using (254) Moon Rock make a magic loop.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 12 dc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.
Row 2; 2 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.
Row 3: 2 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, (2 dc in next st and 1 dc in following st) repeat to end of row. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Right Leg
Using (162) Black Coffee work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Rows 3-5: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 7: 3 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
Left Leg
Using (162) Black Coffee work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Rows 3-4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, Work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
Left Arm
Using (162) Black Coffee work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Rows 3-4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, Work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
Right Arm
Using (162) Black Coffee work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Rows 4-6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 7: 2 ch, work a joined dc over the 4 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, Work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the nose to the muzzle.
Embroider a mouth under the nose.
Attach the muzzle to the head.
Embroider a white dot to the middle of each eye.
Stitch the eyes just above the muzzle on each side.
Attach the head to the body.
Sew the right leg to the body.
Stitch the left leg to the body.
Attach the arms to the body where shown.
