Welcome to my crochet small owl pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished small owl applique will look like.

Crochet Small Owl Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (179) Topaz, (106) Snow White, (110) Black, (254) Moon Rock and (383) Ginger Gold.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Thread and needle to stitch the owl together and white thread to embroider dot in the centre of the eyes.
- Scissors.

Size
Large owl (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
5cm wide x 6.5cm high or 2” wide x 3” high
Medium owl (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
4cm wide x 5.5cm high or 1.5” wide x 2.25” high
Small owl (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
3cm wide x 4cm high or 1.25” wide x 1.5” high
Face
Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 8 hdc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 8 hdc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.
Row 2: Miss 1st st, work 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st. Fasten off leaving a long tail to stitch the 2 pieces together.

Stitch the 2 face pieces together with a few stitches along the side of row 2 of the 2nd face piece and along the side of the 1st piece.

Join (179) Topaz to top corner in back loop only where shown.
1 ch, working in back loop only work 1 sl st in each st to 2nd bottom corner, 1 sc in each st to middle top of 1st circle where shown, 4 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, a joined hdc over last ch and next st on face, 1 dc in next st, 1 tr in join in the 2 face parts, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in following st, 4 ch, 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in last ch, sl st in next st of face, sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.



Eye (Make 2)
Using (110) Black make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 2 sc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off. I left tails to stitch the eyes down.

Beak
Using (383) Ginger Gold make a magic loop.
2 ch, work 1 hdc in circle. Pull circle tight. Fasten off. I left a tail to stitch the beak down.

Body
Join (106) Snow White in back loop only of 2nd st before centre stitch on bottom side of head where shown.

Row 1: 1 ch, working into back loop only work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in following st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.

Neatening Row & Tail
Join (106) Snow White at beginning of body at neck.

Work 1 sl st in each st to 1st corner of row 5. 3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in next st, 4 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in next st, 3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in next st, work 1 sl st in each st to neck. Fasten off.

Right Wing
Join (179) Topaz in back loop only of 1st st on body after neck.

1 ch, working into back loop work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in following st, 1 sc in each st to last st down the side, sl st in next st. 2 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in last st of side. Fasten off.

Left Wing
Join (179) Topaz in back loop only of 1st st up the side after tail, 2 ch.

Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, working into back loop only work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc and 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in each st to neck. Fasten off.

Branch
Using (254) Moon Rock work 17 ch.
Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 3 ch, 2 sc in each of following 2 ch, 1 hdc in each of next 4 ch, 1 dc in each remaining ch. Fasten off.

To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider a white dot in centre of each eye.

Attach an eye in centre of each white circle.

Stitch the beak between the eyes.

Sew the branch across the owl.

Embroider claws over the branch.

And there’s the finished owl appliqué. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colors. I’ve made some owls without a branch to be added to a tree. I’ll add the claws once they are attached to the tree.
