Welcome to my crochet sleeping baby pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished sleeping baby applique will look like.

Crochet Sleeping Baby Pattern

Abbreviations 

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • dc – double crochet
  • htr – half treble crochet
  • tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

  • Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (222) Tulip, (162) Black Coffee and (130) Old Lace.
  • A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
  • A darning needle to weave in ends.
  • Scissors.
  • Thread and needle to stitch the baby together.

Crochet sleeping baby 2 ply cotton

Size 

Large Baby (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

11cm wide x 7cm high or 4.25” wide x 2.75” high

Medium Baby (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

7cm wide x 4cm high or 2.75” wide x 1.5” high

Small Baby (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

5cm wide x 3cm high or 2” wide x 1.25” high

Head

Using (130) Old Lace work 6 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Rows 3-6:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, a joined dc over the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in last st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st to row 3 of the other side of the head, 1 ch, 1 htr in the same place as last sl st, 1 ch, sl st in the same place as last sl st, 1 sl st in each st to end of row.  Fasten off.

Hair

Using (162) Black Coffee work 6 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, a joined dc over next 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Join (162) Black Coffee to next st along row 3.

Row 1:  2 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next st along row 3, 3 ch, miss 1st ch, sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in next st along row 3, 1 dc in each of last 3 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, a joined dc over next 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st to the point of row 5.  Fasten off.

Jumpsuit

Join (222) Tulip 5 sts before ear on the head where shown.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 2 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 3:  Sl st in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 6 sts.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 6:  2 ch, work a joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st.  Miss last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 8:  2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 3 ch, 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in last ch, sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (222) Tulip to 1st st of the jumpsuit.

Work 1 sl st in each st around to head.  Fasten off.  I pulled the jumpsuit into shape when I wove in the ends.

Hand

Join (130) Old Lace to 1st st of the jumpsuit.

2 ch, work 2 htr in same st as join, 2 htr in next st.  Fasten off.

Bow

Using (222) Tulip make a magic loop.

(2 ch, 1 htr in circle, 2 ch, sl st in circle) 2 times, pull the circle tight and fasten off.

Headband

Using (222) Tulip work enough ch to go from one side of the head to the other with a bend in the middle.  Fasten off I left long tails at both ends to stitch it to the head.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the hair to the head.

Embroider eyes, eyebrows, nose and mouth on the face.  Stitch the headband to the head.  Attach the bow to the headband.
