Welcome to my crochet seagull pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished seagull applique will look like.

Crochet Seagull Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (106) Snow White, (074) Mercury, (189) Royal Orange and (110) Black.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Sewing thread and a needle to stitch the seagull together.
- Black thread to embroider on the eye.
Size
Large seagull (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
7.5cm wide x 6cm high or 3” wide x 2.75” high
Medium seagull (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
5cm wide x 4cm high or 2” wide x 1.5” high
Small seagull (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
4cm wide x 3cm high or 1.5” wide x 1” high
Head & Body
Using (106) Snow White work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 tr in next st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc and 1 htr in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 4: 3 ch, work 1 tr, 1 htr and 1 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 1 htr in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 1 dc and 1 htr in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 6: 3 ch, work 1 tr, 1 htr and 1 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 1 dc and 1 htr in last st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
Work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
Wing
Using (074) Mercury work 7 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each ch to last ch, 2 dc in the last ch. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 4 sts, sl st in next st. Turn.
Row 3: Sl st into 1st dc, work a joined dc over last 3 sts. Fasten off.
Tail
Join (110) Black in behind the tail where shown.
5 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in the same place as join, 3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in join. Fasten off.
Beak
Join (189) Royal Orange to head where shown.
3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in same st as join. Fasten off.
Legs
Join (189) Royal Orange where shown.
7 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each of next 2 ch, 1 ch, sl st in top of 1st claw. Fasten off.
Join (189) Royal Orange to st behind 1st leg and work another leg the same.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the wing to the body.
Embroider on an eye.
And there’s the finished seagull applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes.
