For the pattern and tutorial today I’ll be showing you how to make this cute crochet rabbit.

Hopping Rabbit Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

• st –  stitch
• sts –  stitches
• ch –  chain
• sl st –  slip stitch
• dc –  double crochet
• htr –  half treble crochet
• tr –  treble crochet
• dtr –  double treble crochet

Materials Used

• A main and contrast colour, black, white, pink and a colour for the eyes cotton or wool.
• Crochet hook.
• Scissors.
• Thread to sew together.
• Sewing needle.
• Darning needle to weave in ends.
• Black cotton to embroider on the mouth.

Head

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  3 ch. Work 14 tr into circle and pull circle tight. Sl st into 3rd ch.
Row 2:  3 ch. 1 tr in same place as ch. Work 2 tr into each st around. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 3:  2 ch. Work 1 htr in same place as ch,1 htr in each of next 2 sts and 2 htr in following st, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 dtr in following st, 1 dtr in next, 2 dtr in following st, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in each of following 2 sts, 2 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 2 dtr in each of next 2 sts, 1 tr in following st, (2 htr in next st and 1 htr in each of following 2 sts) repeat to last 4 sts, 1 tr in next st, 2 dtr in each of following 2 sts, 1 tr in last st, sl st in 2^nd ch.  Don’t fasten off.

1^st Inner Ear

Sl st up 3 sts from join.

11 ch, miss 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 joined htr over following 2 sts, 1 tr in next, 1 dtr in each of next 2 sts, 1 tr in next and 1 htr in last st.  Sl st into head and fasten off.

1^st Outer Ear

Join cotton to the same st at beginning of 1^st inner ear.

Sl st into each st up side of ear, 2 dc into each of next 2 sts in end of ear, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 joined tr over next 2 sts, 1 dtr in following st, 1 joined dtr over next 2 sts, 1 tr in any remaining sts.  Sl st into head and fasten off.

2^nd Inner Ear

Join cotton 5 sts down from centre st (the single dtr) on top of head.

Work the same as 1^st ear.

2^nd Outer Ear

Join cotton 2 sts before 2^nd ear.

Work a joined dtr over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dtr in each of next 2 sts, 1 joined tr over next 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sl st in each remaining st.  Sl st into head and fasten off.

Muzzle

Make a magic loop.

3 ch, 3 tr, 6 htr, 4 tr, 6 htr, sl st in 3 ch.  Fasten off.

Outer Eye (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

1 ch, 6 dc in circle.  Pull circle tight and sl st in ch.  Fasten off.

Inner Eye (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

1 ch 2 dc in circle.  Pull circle tight and sl st in ch.  Fasten off.

Nose

Make a magic loop.

2 ch, joined htr in circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Fasten off.

Tongue

Make a magic loop.

2 ch, joined htr in circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Fasten off.

Body

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  3 ch. Work 14 tr into circle and pull circle tight. Sl st into 3rd ch.
Row 2:  3 ch. 1 tr in same place as ch. Work 2 tr into each st around. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 3:  3 ch. Work 1 tr in same place as ch (1 tr in each of next 2 sts and 2 tr in following st) repeat to end, sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 4:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st around to end.  Sl st in ch and fasten off.

Tail

Join cotton to body.

2 ch, joined htr in same place as ch, 2 ch sl st in same place as htr, sl st into next st, 2 ch, sl st into the 2 ch loop as shown.

1 ch, work a joined tr in same place as last sl st on body, 3 ch, sl st in same place as tr, sl st in next st, 2 ch, sl st into the 2 ch loop as shown.

Work a joined htr in same place as last sl st on body, 2 ch sl st in same place as htr.  Fasten off.

Legs (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  3 ch, 3 tr into circle, 3 ch, sl st into circle, then work 1 ch and 3 dc into circle and sl st into bottom of 1^st 3 ch.  Pull circle tight. Turn.
Row 2:  1 ch, 1 dc in 1^st 3 sts.  Turn.
Row 3:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1^st st, joined dc over following 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 4:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.
Row 5:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1^st st, joined dc over following 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 6:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.
Row 7:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1^st st, joined dc over following 2 sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

For second leg turn it over to work neatening row so it will point in the opposite direction

Sl st in each st around fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider a white spot on each inner eye.

Stitch inner eye to outer eye.

Stitch nose onto muzzle and stitch the tongue to centre bottom of muzzle. 

Embroider on the line between the nose and onto tongue and embroider on the dots.

Stitch the muzzle to the head.

Stitch the eyes to the head where shown and embroider eyelashes if desired.

Stitch on the mouth and around the tongue if desired.

Attach the head to the body.

Attach the paws to the bottom of the head as shown.

And there’s the finished crochet rabbit.
