Welcome to my crochet picnic basket pattern. This is an ongoing series where I’ll be making a teddy bears picnic blanket. The picnic basket will look like this.

Crochet Picnic Basket Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- 1 colour of cotton or wool, I used 4 ply crochet cotton.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1.25mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Sewing needle and thread to sew the handle to the basket.
Size
Large (Using 8 ply wool)
10.5cm x 10cm or 4” x 3.75”
Medium (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)
7cm x 7cm or 2.75” x 2.75”
Picnic Basket
20 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, (1 tr in bottom of next st, 1 dc in following st) repeat to end of row. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 tr in bottom of 1st st, (1 dc in next st, 1 tr in bottom of following st) repeat to end of row. Turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 3 times and row 2 once. Don’t Fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st along sides and bottom, along top work 2 ch and 1 htr in each st. Fasten off.
Handle
30 ch.
Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Attach handle to top of basket.
