Today I will have a crochet pattern for two small birds on a branch. The finished crochet birds will look like this.

Small birds on branch crochet pattern US

 Abbreviations

• st –  stitch
• sts –  stitches
• ch –  chain
• sl st –  slip stitch
• sc –  single crochet
• hdc –  half double crochet
• dc –  double crochet
• tr –  treble crochet

Materials Used

• Small amounts of desired colours of cotton or wool (I used 5 colours).
• Crochet hook.
• Scissors
• Thread to sew together.
• Sewing needle.
• Seed beads to sew on flowers if desired. 

Body

Make a magic loop
Row 1:  3 ch. Work 14 dc into loop and pull tight. Slip st. into 3^rd ch.
Row 2:  4 ch. Work 1tr in same place, 2 tr in each of next 2 dc. 2 dc in each of next 10 dc, 2 tr in each dc to end. Join with a sl st. Don’t end off.

Tail

4 ch, 1 tr in same place, 1 tr and 1 dtr in next st. 1 dtr in next st.  Fasten off.

For bird facing opposite way

To make a bird facing the other way work the tail, 5 ch, 1 dtr in same place, 1 dtr and tr in next st and 1 tr in following st. End off.

Head

Make a magic loop
4 ch. 11 tr into ring, pull tight. Do not join.  End off.  Leave long thread to attach to body.

 Wing (Make 2 for each bird)

Make a magic loop
Row 1:  1 ch. Work 12 sc into loop and pull tight. Slip st. into ch.
Row 2: 1 ch, 3 sc, 1 hdc and 1 dc in next st, 1 tr in next st, 1 dc and 1 hdc in next st, sc around to end.  Fasten off.

Beak

Join yarn to head, 3 ch, joined dc over next 2 sts. End off.

Branch

40 ch, miss 1^st ch,4 sc along, ch, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 7 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sc in other 6 ch, work 2 sc over dc and continue along ch dc 19,  12 ch miss 1^st ch, 3 sc, 2 hdc, dc to the end of  ch and also  1 dc into dc then dc along remaining ch, for about 5 then tr to end.  Fasten off.

Flowers

4 ch, join with a sl st, 1 ch, 1 sc in ring, (4 ch, sc in ring) 4 times, 4 ch sl st in 1^st ch. Fasten off.

Leaves

4 ch, miss first ch, 1 sc in next 2 ch, 3 sc in last ch, work 1 sc into the back of ch, sl st into 1^st ch space.  Fasten off .  Leave a tail.

To make up

Weave in ends.  Stitch head and wings on. Sew in an eye.  Attach leaves to the branch and then attach the flowers.  Lastly attach the birds to the branch.
