Welcome to my crochet panther pattern. This pattern was a request. This is what the finished panther applique will look like.

Crochet Panther Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton color (110) Black.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- White sewing thread and a needle to embroider on the eyes if desired.
Size
Large panther (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
16cm wide x 14cm high or 6.25” wide x 5.5” high
Medium panther (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
10cm wide x 9cm high or 4” wide x 3.5” high
Small panther (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
9cm wide x 7.5cm high or 3.5” wide x 3” high
Head & Body
Using (110) Black work 6 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 3 ch, 2 sc in last ch. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work 1 hdc and 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc and 1 hdc in last st. (11 sts)
Row 4: 3 ch, work 1 dc, 1 hdc and 1 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc and 1 hdc in last st. 12 ch. (15 sts + 12 ch)
Row 6: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch and each st to end. Turn. (26 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (26 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 19 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts. Turn. (20 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (20 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (22 sts)
Rows 11-13: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (22 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (20 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 15 sts. Turn. (15 sts)
Far Back Leg
Row 16: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 17: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 19: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 20-21: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 22: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. 3 ch. (2 sc + 3 ch)
Row 23: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch and each st. Fasten off.
Mouth
Join (110) Black to 4th last st of row 7 where shown.
3 ch, work a joined dc over same st as join and next st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last part of joined dc, sl st in each of next 2 sts, 1 ch, 1 sc in last st. Fasten off.
Back
Join (110) Black to last st at top of the back.
Row 1: 1 ch, work a joined sc over next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of following 5 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 5 sts of back and down the side, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, sl st in following st. Fasten off.
Near Back Leg
Join (110) Black to last st of the body where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts and a joined sc over following 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts and a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 3-4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 7-8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. 3 ch. (2 sts + 3 ch)
Row 10: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch and each st. Fasten off.
Front Legs
Join (110) Black to st after back legs.
Row 1: 1 ch, work a joined sc over next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of following 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined hdc over next 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 5-10: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. 4 ch. (2 sc + 4 ch)
Row 12: Miss 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each remaining ch and each st. Fasten off.
Far Front Leg
Join (110) Black to 1st st of the body where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over following 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 4-9: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. 4 ch. (2 sc + 4 ch)
Row 11: Miss 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each remaining ch and each st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row, Tail & Ears
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st to 3 sts before back, 20 ch, miss 1st 2 ch, 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch, a joined hdc over following 3 ch, a joined hdc over next 2 ch, 1 hdc in each of following 3 ch, 2 hdc in next ch, 1 hdc in each ch to last ch, 2 hdc in last ch, sl st in body, 1 sl st in each st to 1st st of row 1 of head, into 1st st work 1 sl st and 1 sc, into next st 1 sc and 1 sl st, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts, 2 ch, work 1 hdc in same st as last sl st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as hdc, 1 sl st in each st to end of row. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider on eyes if desired.
