Welcome to my crochet new moon pattern. This is a request that I received. This is what the finished new moon applique will look like.

Crochet New Moon Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- dtr – double treble crochet
Materials Used
- Crochet cotton or wool, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush 2 ply crochet cotton colours (280) Lemon, (106) Snow White, (110) Black and a tiny bit of (390) Poppy Rose.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Sewing thread and needle to stitch the eye to the moon.
Size
Large moon (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
14cm x 21cm or 5.5” x 8.25”
Medium moon (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
8.5cm x 14cm or 3.5” x 5.5”
Small moon (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
6.5cm x 10cm or 2.5” x 4”
Moon
Using (280) Lemon make a magic loop.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in circle. Pull circle tight. Turn. (1 st)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn. (1 st)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st and 1 htr in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st and 2 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 1 htr in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 12: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in next st, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 13: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 16: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in following st, 2 tr in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 17: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in following st, 2 tr in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 19: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 20: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 21: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (9 sts)

Row 29: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 30: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 31: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 32: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 33: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 34: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in following st, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 35: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 36: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 37: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 38: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 39: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 40: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 41: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 42: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 43: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 44: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 45: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 46: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 47: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 48: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, a joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 49: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 50: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts. Turn.
Row 51: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
Working loosely work 1 dc in each st to 5 sts before the centre st where shown, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 dtr in next st, 4 ch, sl st in same st as dtr, work 1 dc in each st to end of row. Sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.
Outer Eye
Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc, 1 tr and 1 dc in circle. Pull circle tight. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 3: 2 ch work a joined tr over the 3 sts. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
Work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
Inner Eye
Using (110) Black make a magic loop,
1 ch, work 1 dc, 1 tr and 1 dc in circle. Pull circle tight and fasten off.
Mouth
Using (390) Poppy Rose work 8 ch. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the inner eye to the bottom of the outer eye.
Attach the eye to the moon where shown.
Embroider on eyelashes if desired.
Sew the mouth to the moon.
