Welcome to my crochet mountain pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished mountain applique will look like.

Crochet Mountain Pattern

Abbreviations

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet

Materials Used 

• Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (513) Spring Green and (606) Grass Green.
• A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
• A darning needle to weave in ends.
• Scissors.
• Thread and needle to stitch the markings down.

Size

Large mountains (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

29cm wide x 8cm high or 11.25” wide x 3” high

Medium mountains (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

20cm wide x 6cm high or 7.75” wide x 2.25” high

Small mountains (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

14cm wide x 4cm high or 5.5” wide x 1.5” high

For this mountain, I worked dc instead of hdc to make the mountain higher.

Mountains

Using (513) Spring Green work 55 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each ch to last 2 ch, a joined sc over last 2 ch.  Turn.  (53 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (51 sts)

Row 3:   2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (49 sts)

Row 4:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 2 tr in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (49 sts)

Row 5:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 35 sts, a joined hdc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (37 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (34 sts)

Row 7:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 23 sts, a joined hdc over following 3 sts.  Turn.  (25 sts)

Row 8:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 8 sts, a joined hdc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 9:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, a joined hdc over last 3 sts.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 10:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, a joined sc over last 3 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work a joined sc, hdc and dc over the 3 sts.  Fasten off.

Last Peak

Join (513) Spring Green to the last st of row 6.

Row 1:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 5 sts, a joined hdc over following 3 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of following 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 or 2 sc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

1st Marking

The markings are worked over the top of the mountain and stitched down over the mountain.

Join (606) Grass Green in the front loop only of 5^th st from the bottom on small mountain.

5 ch, work 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 2 dc in next ch, 1 hdc in following ch, 1 sc in last ch, 1 sc in the same place as join, 1 sc in front loop of each of next 3 sts, 9 ch, miss 1 ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 ch, a joined sl st over next 2 ch, 1 hdc in each of following 2 ch, 1 dc in last ch, miss next st, sl st in front loop of following st.  Fasten off.

2nd Marking

Join (606) Grass Green in front loop 3 sts before lowest st between 1^st 2 mountains.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in the same place as join, 1 sc in front loop of each of next 3 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, 1 sc in each of 1^st 3 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.

Row 4:  4 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in 1^st st, 4 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in next st, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

3rd Marking

Join (606) Grass Green in front loop 3 sts after 2^nd marking.

3 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, 1 sc in front loop of each of next 2 sts, 4 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, 1 sc in front loop of each of next 3 sts, 7 ch,  work 1 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each ch to last ch, 2 hdc in last ch, 1 sc in front loop of next st, 4 ch, 1 tr in same st as last sc, 4 ch, 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of last 2 ch, sl st in top of tr, 3 ch, 1 dc in top of tr, 5 ch, 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each remaining ch, 5 ch, 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each remaining ch, sl st in top of dc, 3 ch, sl st in bottom of dc, 4 ch, 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each remaining ch, sl st in top of tr, 1 tr in front loop of each of next 2 sts along mountain, 1 dc in front loop of following st, 3 ch, sl st in same st as dc, 1 sc in front loop of each of next 2 sts, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, 1 sc in front loop of each of next 2 sts, 18 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 ch, 3 sc in following ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 ch, a joined sc over following 3 ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 ch, 3 sc in following ch, 1 sc in each remaining ch, 1 sc in front loop of each st until 3^rd st after next peak, 5 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in same place as last sc.  Fasten off.

4th Marking

Using (606) Grass Green work 10 ch.

Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sl st in each of next 2 ch, a joined sc over following 2 ch, 1 hdc in each ch to last ch, sl st in last ch, work a joined tr, 2 dc and 1 tr over the front loop of 4 middle sts between the 2 tall peaks, 4 ch, sl st in same st as last st, 1 sc in front loop of each of next 2 sts.  Fasten off.

5th Marking

Join (606) Grass Green in front loop in st before top of last peak.

1 ch, work 1 sc in the same place as join, 1 sc in front loop of next st, 5 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, 1 sc in front loop of each st to 2^nd st down slope, 3 ch, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in last ch, 1 sc in front loop of next st, 6 ch, miss 1^st ch, sl st in each of next 2 ch, 4 ch, miss 1^st ch, sl st in each remaining ch, 1 sc in front loop of next st, 10 ch, miss 2 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 3 ch, a joined dc over following 3 ch, 1 dc in each remaining ch, 1 hdc in front loop of each remaining st down slope.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the markings down.
