Today I’ve got a crochet pattern for a crochet monkey appliqué. I’ve also included one design with hair and one without to give you some choice about how your monkey will look.

Crochet Monkey Pattern

Abbreviations

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet 

Materials Used

• Small amounts of brown, tan or cream, white, yellow and black cotton or wool.
• Crochet hook.
• Thread to sew together and embroider on face.
• Sewing needle.
• Scissors.
• Darning needle to weave in ends. 

Head

Make a magic loop.
Row 1:  3 ch. Work 14 dc into loop and pull tight. Slip st. into 3^rd ch.
Row 2:  3 ch. Work 2 dc into each dc. Join with a sl st in 3^rd ch.
Row 3:  3 ch.  *Work 1 dc in each of next 2 dc and 2 dc in following dc, * repeat from * to * to end, sl st. in 3^rd ch. Do not fasten off.

Ears

2 ch, 1 dc and 1 tr in same st as 2 ch, work 1 tr, 1 dc, 2 ch and sl st in next st.  Fasten off.
Miss 15 stitches and work another ear the same over the next 2 stitches.  Fasten off.

Body

Make a magic loop.
Row 1:  3 ch. Work 14 dc into loop and pull tight. Slip st. into 3^rd ch.
Row 2:  3 ch. Work 2 dc into each dc. Join with a sl st.
Row 3:  3 ch.  *Work 1 dc in each of next 2 dc and 2 dc in following dc, * repeat from * to * to end, sl st. in 3^rd ch.
Row 4:  3 ch.  *Work 1 dc in each of next 2 dc and 2 dc in following dc, * repeat from * to * to end, sl st. in 3^rd ch.

Tail

22 ch, miss 2 ch work 2 hdc in each of next 2 ch, (2 dc in next st and 1 dc in following st) 2 times, work 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, (1 dc in next st and 2 dc in following st) 3 times, work 1 dc in each st to last, work 3 dc in last st.  Sl st into body.

Tummy Part

Make a magic loop.
Row 1: 3 ch, 2 dc, 3 tr, 6 dc 3 tr, 3 dc. Pull loop tight and sl st in 3^rd ch.
Row 2: 4 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 2 tr in each st to halfway, 2 dc in next st, 2 hdc in each st to last, 2 dc in last st, sl st into 4^th ch.
Row 3: 2 ch, 1 hdc in same place as ch, *1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 2 hdc in following st*, repeat around. Sl st into 2^nd ch.  Fasten off.

Face Part

Make a magic loop.
Row 1: 3 ch, 12 dc into loop and pull loop tight.  Join with a sl st into 3^rd ch.
Row 2: 3 ch. Work 2 dc into each dc. Join with a sl st in 3^rd ch.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 sc in next 2 sts, into next st work 1 hdc and 1 dc, work 2 tr in following st and 1 dc and 1 hdc in next st. then 1 sc, 1 hdc and 1 dc in following st, 2 tr in next st and 1 dc and 1 hdc in following st, work 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, work 1 sc in each st to last, work 2 hdc in last st, sl st into ch.  Fasten off.

Outer Eyes (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.
3 ch, work a 3 dc cluster into loop. Pull loop tight.  Fasten off.

Inner Eyes (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.
1 ch, 3 sc into loop.  Pull loop tight and sl st into ch.  Fasten off.

Feet (Make 2)

9 ch, work 6 tr in 5^th ch from the hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc and then 1 dc, work 6 dc in last st, work 1 dc, 1 hdc 1 dc in the back of the dcs and hdc. Sl st into ch at the top of row. * Sl st into next st, 2 ch, 1 hdc into same st, 2 ch, sl st into same st.* repeat 3 times. Fasten off.

Row 2: Sl st into next st. * into this stitch work 2 ch, 1 hdc, 2 ch, st st into same spot, sl st into next st* repeat 3 times. Fasten off.

Banana

Using yellow make a magic loop.
3 ch, work 2 tr into loop.  Pull loop tight.  Turn
Row 2: 3 ch, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 3 ch work 1 dc just below ch.  Fasten off.

Join cream cotton into top of beginning 3 ch of previous row, 3 ch, work a 2 dc cluster over remaining 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Join yellow just under where cream cotton was joined and work 3 ch and 1 dc.  Fasten off.

Arms (Make 2)

11ch, work 1 dc in 4^th ch from hook, work 2 dc in each of next 3 ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 2 dc in next st and 3 dc in last st, 3 ch and sl st into same st. 1 ch sc around to end of 1^st curve. Fasten off.

To make up

Weave in ends.  Attach inner eyes to outer eyes.

Attach eyes to face and embroider in nose and mouth.

Sew the tummy piece on to the body and the face piece on to the head.

Position the arms onto the body as shown and stitch them on, then stitch the head on over the top.

Attach the feet and the banana.

Hair (Optional)

If you would like your monkey to have its hair sticking up join cotton one stitch off centre on the top of its head, work 3 ch, miss 1 ch and work sl sts over 2 ch and into same st at head, sl st into next st and work 4 ch, miss 1^st ch, work a sl st into other 3 ch and same st on head, sl st into next st and work 3 ch, miss 1^st ch and work sl sts into each st. sl st into head.  Fasten off.
