Welcome to my crochet large heart pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished large heart applique will look like.

Crochet Large Heart Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used 8 ply yarn.
- A crochet hook, I used a 4.5mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Appliques and flowers to decorate heart if desired.
- Stuffing to stuff the heart if desired.
- Thread and needle to attach the appliques to heart if desired.
Size
Large heart (Using 8 ply yarn & a 4.5mm hook)
16.5cm wide x 16.5cm high or 6.5” wide x 6.5” high
Medium heart (Using 4 ply yarn & a 2.5mm hook)
10cm wide x 10cm high or 4” wide x 4” high
Heart (Make 2)
Make a magic loop.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 dc, 1 sc and 1 dc in circle. Pull circle tight. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work 1 dc and 1 sc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 1 dc and 1 sc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop of following st, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 4: 2 ch, work 1 dc and 1 sc in 1st st, (1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop of following st) 2 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work 1 dc and 1 sc in 1st st, (1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop of following st) 3 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 6: 2 ch, work 1 dc and 1 sc in 1st st, (1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop of following st) 4 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 7: 2 ch, work 1 dc and 1 sc in 1st st, (1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop of following st) 5 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (15 sts)
Row 8: 2 ch, work 1 dc and 1 sc in 1st st, (1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop of following st) 6 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (17 sts)
Row 9: 2 ch, work 1 dc and 1 sc in 1st st, (1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop of following st) 7 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (19 sts)
Row 10: 2 ch, work 1 dc and 1 sc in 1st st, (1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop of following st) 8 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (21 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, (1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop only of following st) 9 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (21 sts)
Row 12: 2 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, (1 sc in back loop only of next st, 1 dc in following st) 9 times, 1 sc in back loop of next st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (21 sts)
Row 13: 1 ch, work a joined sc and dc over 1st 2 sts, (1 sc in back loop only of next st, 1 dc in following st) 3 times, a joined sc and dc over next 2 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 14: 2 ch, work a joined dc and sc over 1st 2 sts, (1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop only of following st) 2 times, a joined dc and sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work a joined sc and dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in back loop only of next st, 1 dc in following st, a joined sc and dc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
2nd Side
Join yarn in st after last st worked on row 12.
Row 1: 2 ch, work a joined dc and sc over next 2 sts, (1 dc in next st and 1 sc in back loop only of following st) 3 times, a joined dc and sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined sc and dc over 1st 2 sts, (1 sc in back loop only of next st, 1 dc in following st) 2 times, a joined sc and dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work a joined dc and sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in back loop only of following st, a joined dc and sc over last 2 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening row
1 ch, work 1 sc in each st around except in point at bottom of heart where you work 1 sc, 1 ch and 1 sc. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Decorate Heart if Desired.
To Join Hearts Together
With wrong sides together join yarn to centre top of heart where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, working into the top loops of the sc of each heart work 1 sc in each st around to point at bottom of heart where you work 1 sc, 1 ch, 1 sc. Continue working 1 sc in each st until you have an inch or two left to work.
Add desired amount of stuffing in heart and then finish working 1 sc in each st to end of row, Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.
Row 2: (2 ch, sl st in next st) repeat to end of row. Fasten off if not adding a hanger.
Hanger
Work about 30 ch, sl st in centre dip of heart. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends.
