Welcome to my crochet Jack Russell pattern. This pattern was a request. This is what the finished Jack Russell terrier applique will look like.

Crochet Jack Russell Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (105) Bridal White, (106) Snow White, (383) Ginger Gold, (110) Black and (162) Black Coffee.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Sewing thread and a needle to stitch the Jack Russell together.
- 2 small black beads for the eyes.
- White fabric paint or white cotton for the dot in the middle of the beads if desired.
Size
Large Jack Russell (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
17cm wide x 14cm high or 6.5” wide x 5.5” high
Medium Jack Russell (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
11cm wide x 9cm high or 4.5” wide x 3.5” high
Small Jack Russell (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
9cm wide x 7.5cm high or 3.5” wide x 3” high
Muzzle
Using (106) Snow White work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 3 sc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over the 3 sts. 5 ch.
Row 5: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 3 ch, 1 hdc in the last ch, sl st in top of row 4. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
Turn work before neatening row.
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
Head
Join (383) Ginger Gold to 2nd stitch from the bottom where shown.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in same st as join. Sl st in the side of the muzzle near the top of hdc, sl st in next st up the side of the muzzle. Turn. (1 st)
Row 2: Work 1 hdc in join in the side, 1 hdc in st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of the 2 sts, 1 hdc in the side of muzzle. Sl st in the side of muzzle near top of hdc, sl st in next st up the side of muzzle. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: Work 1 hdc in each of the 3 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in last st, join to top of muzzle with a sl st. Fasten off.
2nd Side of Head
Join (383) Ginger Gold even with join on 1st side on the wrong side as shown.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in same st as join. Sl st in the side of muzzle near top of hdc, sl st in next st up the side of muzzle. Turn. (1 st) (I sl st from the right side for all the sl sts into the muzzle on the 2nd side so it doesn’t show)
Row 2: Work 1 hdc in join in the side, 1 hdc in st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of the 2 sts, 1 hdc in the side of the muzzle. Sl st in the side of the muzzle near the top of hdc, sl st in next st up the side of the muzzle. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: Work 1 hdc in each of the 3 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 2 dc in top of the muzzle, 1 hdc in next st of 1st side, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join (383) Ginger Gold to the same st as join for 1st side of the head.
Work 1 sl st in each st around the top to join of 2nd side. Fasten off.
Left Ear
Join (162) Black Coffee 6 sts down from top of head where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 2 sc in next st, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in next st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in following st, sl st in next st. 3 ch.
Row 3: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts. Fasten off.
Right Ear
Join (162) Black Coffee 5 sts down from the top on the wrong side.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 2 sc in next st, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in next st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in following st, sl st in next st. 3 ch.
Row 3: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts. Fasten off.
Nose
Using (110) Black make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 3 sc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Body
Using (105) Bridal White work 5 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. 18 ch. (7 sts + 18 ch)
Row 5: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch and each st to end. Turn. (24 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (24 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (25 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (25 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (24 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (23 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (21 sts)
Row 12: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (20 sts)
Row 13: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (19 sts)
Front Leg
Row 14: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 6 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 16-17: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined hdc over 1st and last sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 19: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 20: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined hdc over 1st and last sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 21: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. 4 ch. (2 sts + 4 ch)
Row 22: Miss 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each remaining ch and each st. Fasten off.
Near Back Leg
Join (105) Bridal White to the last st of the body where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 2 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined hdc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over 1st and last sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts and 1 sc in last st. 5 ch. (2 sts + 5 ch)
Row 10: Miss 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each remaining ch and each st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row & Tail
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st to top of the back leg, 1 sc in each st to 1st st of back, 15 ch, 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, a joined hdc over following 2 sts, 1 hdc in each ch to last 2 ch, 1 dc in each of last 2 ch, sl st in back, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in each of following 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of following 3 sts, 1 sl st in each st to 1st st of sts before front leg, 1 ch, 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts along the bottom before front leg, 1 sl st in each st to end of row. Fasten off.
Far Front Leg
Join (105) Bridal White to back loop of 1st st on the body as shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, working into the back loop only work 1 sc in same st as join, a joined sc over next 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 2-3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. 4 ch. (2 sts + 4 ch)
Row 5: Miss 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each remaining ch and each st. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join (105) Bridal White to the top of the leg.
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around the leg. Fasten off.
Far Back Leg
Join (105) Bridal White in the back loop of st after near back leg where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, working into the back loop only work a joined sc over same st as join and next st, 1 sc in each of following 4 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: Sl st into 2nd st, 3 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, 1 hdc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined hdc over both sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. 4 ch. (2 sts + 4 ch)
Row 9: Miss 1st 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each remaining ch and each st. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join (105) Bridal White to 1st st of the far back leg.
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around far back leg. Fasten off.
1st Body Marking
Using (383) Ginger Gold make a magic loop.
Row 1: 3 ch, work 1 dc, 1 hdc and 1 sc in circle. Pull circle tight. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each remaining st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over next 2 sts, 2 ch, 1 sc in last st. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
Turn work before neatening row.
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
2nd Body Marking
Using (383) Ginger Gold work 7 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts. 3 ch. (1 st + 3 ch)
Row 6: Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in last ch, sl st in the end of row 5. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
Turn work before neatening row.
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st to point at end of row 1. Fasten off.
3rd Body Marking
Using (383) Ginger Gold work 6 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last st. 3 ch. (5 sts + 3 ch)
Row 3: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch. Sl st in end of last st of row 2. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider 2 white dashes near the top of the nose.
Stitch the nose to the muzzle.
Sew 2 black beads to the head for the eyes or embroider on the eyes.
Add a white dot in the middle of each bead.
Attach the body markings to the body.
Sew the head to the body.
And there’s the finished Jack Russell applique. I’ve also made him in different sizes and colors.
