Today I’ll be showing you how to make the crochet gingerbread lady dress pattern. This is the second part of the crochet gingerbread appliqué. The first part was the gingerbread man.

This pattern will be using UK terminology, if you would like to get the US version go to Crochet Gingerbread Lady Dress Pattern (US Version).
Gingerbread Lady Crochet Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- dtr – double treble crochet
Materials Used
- Gingerbread colour, contrasting colour and black cotton or wool.
- Crochet hook.
- Scissors.
- Thread to sew together.
- Sewing needle.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Thin white cotton if desired to make flowers.
- Thin white ribbon if desired.
Head
Make a magic loop.
Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 tr into loop and pull tight. Slip st. into 3rd ch.
Row 2: 3 ch. 1 tr in same place. Work 2 tr into each tr. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch. Fasten off.
Arms and Body
Row 1: 8 ch,(chain for first arm) working one stitch into each of 7 sts on head work 1 tr, 1 htr, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 htr and 1 tr into sts on head then work 10 ch. Turn.
Row 2: miss 2 ch and work 2 htr in next ch, 1 htr in each of next 3 ch, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in rest of ch, across body and 1st 3 ch of other side, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st.
Row 3: 2 ch, 1 joined htr over next 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 4 sts, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in each of next 13 sts, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in each st to last 2 sts, a joined htr over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Join cotton for body 4 sts back from the centre st. (First row of body is worked on 9 sts.).
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of the next 8 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of the next 8 sts. Turn.
Rows 3-6: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end and 1 htr in the top of the 2 ch. Turn (You get an extra st each row – after the 6th row you have 2 ch and 12 htr).
1st Leg
Row 1: 2 ch, 1 htr in each of next 4 sts, 1 joined htr over next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch, A joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each st to end. 1 htr in top of 2 ch. Turn.
Row 3: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, 1 htr in each st to last 2, joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4: 2 ch, joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each st. 1 htr in top of 2 ch, Turn.
Row 5: 2 ch, work a htr cluster over all sts. Fasten off.
2nd Leg
Join cotton to the body in the next st after the 1st leg.
Row 1: 2 ch, 1 htr in each st and in the top of the 2 ch. Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, 1 htr in each st to last 2, joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 3: 2 ch, joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each st. 1 htr in top of 2 ch, Turn.
Row 4: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, 1 htr in each st to last 2, joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 5: 2 ch, work a htr cluster over all sts Don’t fasten off.
To Neaten Edges
With the cotton from the leg work 1 ch and 1 dc in each st around the whole gingerbread man. Join with a sl st in the ch. Fasten off.
Eyes (Make 2)
Make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 4 dc into circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in ch. Fasten off.
Dress
20 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Rows 2-10: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn.
Rows 11-12: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st. Turn. (10 dc).
Shape Bodice
Row 1: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 joined dc over next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over the 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 dc. Fasten off.
Other side
Miss the next 2 sts in the centre and join cotton.
Row 1: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over same st as ch and next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 dc in 1st st, 1 joined dc over next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over the 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 dc. Don’t fasten off.
To Neaten Edges
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st around and join with a sl st in ch. If desired work 2 ch between each dc along bottom edge to give a small frill. Fasten off.
Flowers (Make 3)
Make a magic loop.
1 ch, (dc in circle, 5 ch) 5 times, pull circle tight and sl st in 1st dc. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider on a mouth.
Attach the eyes to the head just above the mouth as shown.
Sew the flowers evenly to the bottom of the dress.
Stitch the ribbon across the middle of the dress.
Attach the dress to the gingerbread lady.
