Welcome to my crochet French bulldog pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished French bulldog applique will look like.

Crochet French Bulldog Pattern

Abbreviations 

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet

Materials Used 

• Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (106) Snow White, (130) Old Lace, (162) Black Coffee, (254) Moon Rock, (110) Black and a tiny bit of (398) Colonial Rose.
• A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
• A darning needle to weave in ends.
• Scissors.
• Sewing thread and a needle to stitch the dog together.
• White cotton to embroider markings on eyes.

Size

Large French Bulldog (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

14cm wide x 19cm high or 5.5” wide x 7.5” high

Medium French Bulldog (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

10cm wide x 12cm high or 4” wide x 4.75” high

Small French Bulldog (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

7.5cm wide x 10cm high or 3” wide x 4” high

Head

Using (106) Snow White work 4 ch.

 

Row 1: Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts and a joined sc over last part of joined sc and last st. Turn. (2 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 sc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts and a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)

Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts. Turn. (1 st)

Row 6: 1 ch, work 3 sc in st. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 7: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 8: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)

Row 9: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)

Rows 10-11: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (7 sts)

Row 12: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 14: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 3 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.

1st Side of Head

Join (162) Black Coffee to 1^st st at top side of head where shown.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in following st, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 hdc in following st, a joined dc over next 2 sts. Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 2: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 8 sts, a joined hdc over last 3 sts. Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 4: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn.  (8 sts)

1st Ear

Row 5: 1 ch, work 3 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st. Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 6: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, a joined sc over last 3 sts. Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of last 3 sts.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 9: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, a joined hdc over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 10: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over the 4 sts. Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (162) Black Coffee to 1^st st of 1^st side of head and ear.

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st to white. Fasten off.

2nd Side of Head

Join (162) Black Coffee to 1^st st at top side of head on wrong side where shown.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in following st, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 hdc in following st, a joined dc over next 2 sts. Turn. (13 sts)

Row 2: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (13 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 8 sts, a joined hdc over last 3 sts. Turn. (10 sts)

Row 4: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (8 sts)

2nd Ear

Row 5: 1 ch, work 3 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st. Turn. (10 sts)

Row 6: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, a joined sc over last 3 sts. Turn. (6 sts)

Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of last 3 sts. Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (6 sts)

Row 9: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, a joined hdc over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 10: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over the 4 sts. Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (162) Black Coffee to 1^st st of 2^nd side of head and ear.

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st to white. Fasten off.

Muzzle

Using (106) Snow White work 6 ch.

 

Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)

Row 3: 2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)

1st Side

Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over following 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 4 sts. Fasten off.

2nd Side

Join (106) Snow White to 1^st st of row 3.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over following 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 4 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.

Mouth

Join (398) Colonial Rose 1 st from bottom middle of muzzle.

Work 2 sc in bottom middle st, sl st 1 st up from bottom on other side. Fasten off.

Nose

Using (110) Black make a magic loop.  I left a long tail at beginning to embroider a marking to the mouth.

 

2 ch, work 4 hdc in circle, pull circle tight. Fasten off.

Inner Ear (Make 2)

Using (254) Moon Rock work 4 ch.

 

Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 3. 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 3 sts. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 2 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 4 sts. Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Turn 1 inner ear before neatening row.

 

1 ch. work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.

Eyes (Make 2)

Using (110) Black make a magic loop.

 

1 ch, work 6 sc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1^st st. Fasten off.

Body

Using (106) Snow White work 9 ch.

 

Row 1: Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch. Turn. (8 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (8 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (9 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st. Turn. (10 sts)

Row 5: 2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (11 sts)

Row 6: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 1 sc and 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (13 sts)

Row 7: 2 ch, work 1 hdc and 1 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (15 sts)

Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 1 sc and 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (16 sts)

Row 9: 2 ch, work 1 hdc and 1 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (17 sts)

Row 10: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over following 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 11: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, a joined sc over same st as last part of joined sc and last st. Turn. (2 sts)

Row 12: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts. Fasten off.

Join (130) Old Lace to side of last st of row 10.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in next st. join in (106) Snow White and work 1 sc in each st to last st, 1 sc and 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (13 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each of next 10 sts, change to (130) Old Lace, 1 sc in each of following 3 sts, sl st in the side of row 11, sl st in top of row 12. Turn. (15 sts)

Row 3: Work 1 sc in each of 1^st 4 sts, leave the (106) Snow White where it is and continue working with the Old Lace, work 1 sc in back loop only of each of next 7 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 1 sc and 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (16 sts)

Row 4: 2 ch, work 1 hdc and 1 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (16 sts)

Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 1 sc and 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (16 sts)

Row 6: 2 ch, work 1 hdc and 1 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (16 sts)

Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts, 1 sc in back loop of each st to end. Turn. (15 sts)

Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (14 sts)

Row 9: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (12 sts)

Near Front Leg

Use the (106) Snow White left from row 2.

Row 1: Working into front loop only work 1 sc in each of 1^st 5 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)

 

Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (6 sts)

 

Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (6 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)

Join (106) Snow White to 1^st st of leg.

Work 1 sl st in each st around leg. Fasten off.

Body Neatening Row

Join (106) Snow White to 1^st st of Snow White on back.

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st around to where the Old Lace starts, join in (130) Old Lace and work 1 sc in each st to end of row. Fasten off.

Near Back Leg

Join (106) Snow White to 1^st st in front loop left of row 7.

Row 1: 1 ch, working into the front loop left work 1 sc in same st as join and 1 sc in each of next 6 sts. Turn. (7 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 5 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 3 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. 4 ch. (4 sts + 4 ch)

Row 5: Work 2 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of last 2 ch, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)

Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 7 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (8 sts)

Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (106) Snow White to 1^st st of the near back leg.

Work 1 sl st in each st around leg. Fasten off.

Far Front Leg

Join (106) Snow White in back loop only 3 sts down from point of chest where shown.

Row 1: 3 ch, working into back loop only work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of following 4 sts. Turn. (6 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 3 sts, 1 hdc in next st, a joined hdc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 7: 2 ch, work 2 hdc and 1 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 8: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, a joined hdc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (106) Snow White to 1^st st of far front leg.

Work 1 sl st in each st around leg. Fasten off.

Far Back Foot

Join (106) Snow White to body in 1^st st under near front leg where shown.

3 ch, work 2 dc in same st as join, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in following st, sl st in next st. Fasten off.

Body Marking

Using (162) Black Coffee work 20 ch.

 

Row 1: Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in each of following 7 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (20 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each of next 13 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts. Turn. (16 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (16 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (15 sts)

Row 5: 1 ch, sl st into 2^nd and 3^rd sts, 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as last sl st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (13 sc)

Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 11 sts. Turn. (12 sts)

Row 7: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1^st 2 sts, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last part of joined hdc, sl st in each of next 2 sts, 3 ch, 1 dc in same st as ch and 1 dc in following st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last dc, sl st in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in following st, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st to beginning of row 7. Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends. Stitch the nose to the muzzle and embroider a marking from the muzzle to the mouth.

Attach the muzzle to the head.

Sew the inner ears to the ears.

Embroider a white dot on each eye and dashes at bottom of the eyes.

Stitch the eyes to the head.

Sew the body marking to the body.

Attach the head to the body.
