Welcome to my crochet duck pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished duck applique will look like.

Crochet Duck Pattern

Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet

Materials Used 

  • Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (106) Snow White and (189) Royal Orange. A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
  • A darning needle to weave in ends.
  • Scissors.
  • White and orange thread and a needle to stitch the duck together.
  • Black embroidery thread to embroider on the eye if desired.

Crochet duck 2 ply cotton

Size 

Large duck (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

9cm wide x 9.5cm high or 3.5” wide x 3.75” high

Medium duck (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

5cm wide x 6cm high or 2” wide x 2.25” high

Small duck (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

4cm wide x 4.5cm high or 1.5” wide x 1.75” high

 

Head & Body

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  2 ch, work 12 dc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 3 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in next st, 2 dc in following st.  8 ch.  (6 sts + 8 ch)

Row 3:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 11 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 13 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 12 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 11 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 9 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over last 3 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row & Tail

1 ch, work 1 sl st into each st up to corner back st, work 3 ch for the tail, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in last ch, miss 1 st on back, 1 sl st in next st, 1 sc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in following st, 1 sl st in each st to end of row (I worked into back loop only around head).  Sl st in the 1 ch.  Fasten off.

Wing

Using (106) Snow White work 4 ch.

 

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each remaining st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 6:  3 ch, work a joined dc over the 3 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

2 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sl st in each st around wing. Sl st in end of 2 ch.  Fasten off.

Beak

Using (189) Royal Orange work 3 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined hdc and dc over the 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Foot

Using (189) Royal Orange make a magic loop.

 

3 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 2 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in the side of sc, 2 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in the side of last sc, sl st in circle.  Pull circle tight.  3 ch, sl st in centre bottom of duck, 1 sc in each of the 3 ch, sl st in circle.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider an eye to centre circle of head.

Stitch the beak to the head.

Sew the wing to the back.
