Welcome to my crochet chicken pattern. The crochet chicken will look like this.

Crochet Chicken Pattern

Abbreviations

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

• Yellow, orange and brown cotton or wool, I used 8 ply wool which is light worsted in the US and double knit in the UK.
• A crochet hook, I used a 2.5mm hook.
• Scissors.
• Yellow thread to sew together.
• Sewing needle.
• Darning needle to weave in ends.
• Black embroidery cotton or sewing thread to embroider on the eyes.

Head

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  3 ch. Work 14 dc into circle and pull circle tight.  Sl st into 3rd ch.

Row 2:  1 ch. Work 2 sc in each st to halfway, sl st into next st and work 3 ch, miss 1^st ch and work a sl st into each remaining ch and into the same st on the head, 4 ch, miss 1^st ch and work a sl st into each remaining ch and into the same st on the head, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch and work a sl st into each remaining ch and into the same st on the head, work 2 sc into each st to the end.  Join with a sl st in ch.  Fasten off.

Body

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  3 ch. Work 14 dc into circle and pull circle tight. Sl st into 3rd ch.

Row 2:  3 ch. 1 dc in same place as ch. Work 2 dc into each st around. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.  Fasten off.

Beak

Make a magic loop.

Into circle work 3 ch and 1 dc.  Fasten off.  Join yarn in circle and work 3 ch and 1 dc.  Pull circle tight and fasten off.

Wing (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  Work 2 ch and 2 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 hdc in same place as ch, 2 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 3:  2 ch, 1 hdc in same place as ch, 1 hdc in next st, sl st in following st, 2 ch, 2 hdc in next st, sl st in next st, 2 ch, 1 hdc in each of remaining 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Legs

Join yarn to body.

6 ch, miss 1 ch, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch and work a sl st in each of next 2 sts, sl st in same place as last sl st from 1^st claw, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch and work a sl st in each of next 2 sts, sl st in same place as last sl st from 1^st claw, 1 sl st in each st to body.  Sl st into body.  Fasten off.

Join yarn 6 sts on from 1^st leg and work another leg the same.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Attach the beak to the head as shown. Embroider the eyes on just above the beak.

Sew the head to the body.

Stitch the wings to the body.
