I made a crochet cat towel for a baby shower and included some of my previous appliqués on it. The towel features cats, flowers, mice and birds and I’ve added a beach ball and some grass. This is what the finished towel looks like.

I also made some face washers with the same theme.

There are also how to videos on youtube for each of the patterns with the Crochet Cat Towel Pattern, cat pattern, mouse pattern, bird and flower patterns.

This pattern uses UK terminology, if you would like the US version go to Crochet Cat Towel Pattern (US version).

For the towel I crocheted 3 cats, I added markings on 2 of the cats as shown by making small strips of chain and stitching on.  I crocheted 2 mice but left off the whiskers (they were stitched on at the end). I made 3 birds in thinner cotton, all facing the same way.

Note I crochet over the colours I’m not using.
Make a magic circle
Row 1: 1 ch, 12 dc in circle.  Pull circle tight.  Join in ch with a sl st.
Row 2: 3 ch, 1 tr in same place, 2 tr in next st, change colour 2 tr in each of next 2 sts, *change colour 2 tr in each of next 2 sts*, repeat around. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 3: Using same colours as before work 3 ch, tr in same st, 1 tr in next 2 sts, 2 tr in next st, for *next colour 2 tr in 1st st, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts and 2 tr in next tr*, repeat around. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 4: 3 ch, 1 tr in same st, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in next st, 1 tr in next 2 sts, change colour work 2 tr in same st, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in next st, 1 tr in next 2 sts,* repeat around. Fasten off.  Weave in endings.

Grass

Make a row of chain longer than the article you will be putting it on (better to have too many than have to redo it)
Row 2: about 8 ch, miss 1 ch, sl st in next st. dc over 6 ch, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in next st, miss 2 ch, sl st in next st, (first blade of grass) if you want a bit of space between your blades of grass work dc into the ch. If not work ch for a blade of grass (I vary the amount of ch usually between 4 and 9 ch) into each lot of ch I miss the 1st ch, then sl st into the 2nd then I work dc down to the 2nd last ch and work a htr into this st then a sl st into the 3rd ch on the ch row. Repeat across until you get the length desired.

Crochet grass

To Make Up

I made the chain row longer than the towel and crocheted the grass blades but didn’t end off until I had stitched fairly close to the end and was sure the length was right. I used my sewing machine with pink cotton in the bobbin for the grass, cats and mice.  I stitched the grass on first by stitching along the flat side and then stitching back along the grass blades.  I then stitched the cats, mice and birds on except for the birds beaks.  I hand stitched the birds beaks, the mice whiskers and beach ball. Lastly I stitched on the flowers, sewing a French knot in the centre and stitching around the petals.
