Welcome to my crochet branch pattern. This pattern is to go with my blue wren and robin patterns. This is what the finished branch applique will look like.

Crochet Branch Pattern

Abbreviations 

  • st – stitch
  • sts – stitches
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

  • Crochet cotton or wool, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (162) Black Coffee, (390) Poppy Rose and (606) Grass Green.
  • A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
  • Scissors.
  • Darning needle to weave in ends.
  • Sewing thread and needle to stitch the flowers or berries to the branch.
  • Small beads for the centre of the flowers if desired.

Crochet branch 2 ply cotton

Size

Medium branch (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

14cm x 6.5cm or 5.5” x 2.75”

Small branch (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

10.5cm x 5cm or 4” x 2”

Branch

Using (162) Black Coffee work 43 ch.

 

Miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each of next 4 sts, a joined sl st over following 2 sts, 1 sl st in each of next 9 sts, 3 sc in next st, 1 sl st in each remaining ch.  Fasten off.

Berries (Make about 8)

Using (390) Poppy Rose make a magic loop.

 

1 ch, work 4 sc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Holly (Make about 4)

Using (606) Grass Green work 5 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each ch to last ch, work 2 sc in last ch, work 1 sc in back loop of each ch, join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 2:  3 ch, sl st in same st as 3 ch, sl st in each of next 2 sts, 3 ch, sl st in same st as last sl st, sl st in next st, 3 ch, sl st in same st as last sl st, sl st in end, 2 ch, join to the branch with a sl st, sl st in each of the 2 ch, sl st in next st on other side of leaf,  3 ch, sl st in same st as last sl st, sl st in next st, 3 ch, sl st in same st as last sl st, sl st in next st.  Fasten off.

Small Flowers (Make about 6)

Using (390) Poppy Rose make a magic loop.

 

1 ch, into circle work (1 sc, 2 ch) 5 times.  Pull circle tight and sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Leaves (Make about 5)

Using (606) Grass Green work 4 ch.

 

Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next st and 1 hdc in following st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as hdc, 2 ch, join to the branch with a sl st, 1 sl st in each of the 2 ch and back loop of the ch with the hdc, 2 ch, 1 hdc in same st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sl st in top of leaf.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Attach a bead to each flower if desired.  Stitch the berries or flowers to the branch.
