Welcome to my crochet bicycle applique pattern. The finished crochet bicycle applique will look like this.

Crochet Bicycle Applique Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- tr tr – triple treble crochet
Materials Used
- I used red, grey, black, green, white and yellow 4 ply crochet cotton.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1.25mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Sewing thread and a sewing needle to stitch the bike together. Small beads if desired to stitch to the flowers.
Size
Large Bicycle (Using 8 ply wool)
18cm x 13cm or 7” x 5”
Medium Bicycle (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)
13cm x 8cm or 5” x 3”
Wheels (Make 2)
Wheel Centre
Make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 8 sc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.
Wheel Spokes
Join cotton to any stitch on wheel centre.
10 ch, (1 tr tr in next st, 5 ch) 7 times. Sl st in 5th ch. Fasten off. For a tr tr you put yarn around the hook 4 times at start of stitch.
Tire
Join cotton in top of a triple treble.
1 ch, 1 sc in same place as ch, (1 sc in each of next 5 ch, 1 sc in top of next tr tr) repeat to end. Sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Chain Circle
Make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 8 hdc in circle. Pull circle tight and sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Chain Guard
10 ch.
Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 3 sts, 1 dc in each of last 3 sts. Fasten off.
To Make Up Chain Parts
Stitch chain circle to chain guard.
Join cotton to chain guard and work a sl st in back loop only in each st around working 12 ch to stitch to the centre of the wheel at the narrow end of the chain guard.
Join with a sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.
Pedal Crank (Make 2)
5 ch.
Miss 1st ch and work a sl st in each ch to end. Fasten off leaving a long tail to stitch it to the centre of the bicycle wheel.
Pedal (Make 2)
3 ch.
Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in next st and 2 sc in last st. Fasten off.
Seat Post Frame
11 ch.
Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end. 11 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end. Fasten off.
Seat Post
Join cotton to top of seat post frame as shown.
2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st along the top. Fasten off.
Seat
7 ch.
Work 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts and 2 hdc in last st. Fasten off.
Fender (Make 2)
24 ch.
Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, (1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in following st) repeat to last st, work 2 dc in last st. Fasten off.
Joiner Frame
15 ch.
Miss 1st st, work 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, 2 sc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Fasten off.
Handlebar Frame
23 ch.
Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, sl st in last st. Fasten off leaving a long tail to st to the centre of the bicycle wheel.
Handlebar
6 ch.
Miss 2 ch and work 1 hdc in each remaining ch. Fasten off.
Basket
8 ch.
Row 1: Miss 2 ch and work 1 hdc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st, 1 hdc in each st to last st and 2 hdc in last st. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 sc in each st on sides and 2 sc in each corner st. Fasten off.
Flowers
Make a magic loop.
1 ch, into circle work (1 sl st, 1 hdc) 5 times, pull circle tight and sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.
Leaves
Make a magic loop.
3 ch, work a joined dc into circle. Pull circle tight but don’t join. Fasten off.
Cat Head
Make a magic loop.
2 ch, work 15 dc into circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 1st st. Don’t fasten off.
Ears
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined sc over both sts. Fasten off.
Miss 2 sts and work the other ear the same as the 1st ear.
Paws (Make 2)
Make a magic loop.
3 ch, work a joined dc into circle. Pull circle tight and fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the chain section to the back wheel, sewing the 12 ch around the wheel centre.
Sew the seat to the seat post.
Attach the pedals to the pedal cranks as shown.
Stitch the handlebar to the end of the handlebar frame.
Sew the front pedal through the centre of the chain circle using the tail from the pedal crank.
Stitch one end of the seat post frame to the top of the back-wheel circle and the other end behind the end of the chain guard.
Attach the bottom of the handlebar frame to the centre of the front wheel using the tail.
Sew a fender to the handlebar frame just above the wheel making sure you have enough room to attach the basket if desired.
Stitch a fender to the seat post frame as shown.
Attach one end of the joiner frame to the handlebar frame as shown and the other end is attached behind the chain circle.
Stitch the joiner frame to the front fender for a few stitches where it meets.
Sew the back pedal behind the chain circle.
If desired sew the flowers and leaves to the basket.
Attach the basket to the front fender.
If putting a cat in the basket embroider facial features and markings on the cat. Sew some whiskers to the cat’s face.
Attach the paws to the cat.
Sew the cat to the basket.
Attach the basket to the front fender.
