Welcome to my crochet bending flamingo pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished bending flamingo applique will look like.

Crochet Bending Flamingo Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (786) Fuchsia, (398) Colonial Rose, (222) Tulip, (254) Moon Rock and (110) Black.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Black thread and needle to embroider on markings.
- A white bead if desired.
Size
Large flamingo (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
23cm wide x 20cm high or 9” wide x 8” high
Medium Flamingo (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
18.5cm wide x 15cm high or 7.25” wide x 6” high
Small Flamingo (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
14.5cm wide x 11cm high or 5.75” wide x 4.25” high
Beak
Using (110) Black make a magic loop.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in circle. Pull circle tight. Turn. (1 st)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, join in (398) Colonial Rose leaving a long tail for the neatening row and work over it to the side, leave the Black where it is, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, change to Black, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, change to Colonial Rose, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, join in (222) Tulip and leave a tail for neatening row, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, change to Colonial Rose, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 9: Change to (222) Tulip, 1 ch work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, join in (786) Fuchsia, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, change to Tulip and work over the Fuchsia, 1 dc in next st, change to Fuchsia and work over the Tulip to end of row, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
I cut off the Colonial Rose, Tulip and Black leaving tails for the neatening row, leaving a longer tail of Black.
Head & Neck
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 12: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 13: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 16: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, a joined htr over next 2 sts, miss the last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 17: 2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 tr in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 19: 3 ch, work 1 tr in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 20: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 tr in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 21: 2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 22: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)

Row 40: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 htr in each of following 5 sts, 1 tr in next st, 2 tr in last st. Turn. (13 sts)

Row 43: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 9 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. 3 ch. (17 sts + 3 ch)
Row 44: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch and each st to end. Turn. (19 sts)
Row 45: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (19 sts)
Row 46: 1 ch, sl st in each of 1st 2 sts, work a joined dc over next 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (16 dc)
Row 47: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 14 sts. Turn. (15 sts)
Rows 48-51: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (15 sts)
Row 52: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 13 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 53: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 54: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 12 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 55: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 56: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 11 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 57: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 58: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 9 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 59: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each of next 5 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 60: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the colours of the piece work dcs around body and sl sts around the neck and head working joined sts in bends where needed to keep the shape. Fasten off.
Tail
Join (222) Tulip to 1st of the 5 sts at end of body where shown.
Row 1: 12 ch, work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each remaining ch, sl st in each of next 2 sts at end of body. Turn.
Row 2: Working into front loop only work 1 htr in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each of following 5 sts, 2 dc in next st, sl st in next st. Turn.
Row 3: Work 1 sl st in each of 1st 3 sts, 2 ch, working into back loop only work 1 htr in each st to end. Sl st in last st along body. Don’t Fasten off.
Along Back
Row 1: Work 1 dc in each of 1st 23 sts of neatening row along top of back to where shown. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, working into back loop only work 1 dc in each st to last st before tail. Turn.
Row 3: Sl st in each of 1st 4 sts, 5 ch, work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 tr in following ch, 2 tr in last ch, working in front loop only work 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 htr in each of following 2 sts, 1 tr in each st to last 2 sts, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn.
Feathers
We all have different tension so check your chain for the feathers to make sure they will reach almost to the bottom of the body and adjust if needed.
Row 4: Sl st in front loop only in each of 1st 5 sts, 16 ch, miss 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 8 ch, 1 tr in each remaining ch, miss 2 sts along back, sl st in front loop only of next st, 15 ch, miss 2 ch, 1 htr in each of next 7 ch, 1 tr in each remaining ch, miss 2 sts along back, sl st in front loop only of next st, 14 ch, miss 2 ch, 1 htr in each of next 7 ch, 1 tr in each remaining ch, miss 2 sts along back, sl st in front loop only of next st, 13 ch, miss 2 ch, 1 htr in each of next 5 ch, 1 tr in each remaining ch, sl st in last st. Fasten off.
Join Colonial Rose 2 sts before 1st feather were shown.
16 ch, miss 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 7 ch, 1 tr in each remaining ch, sl st in back loop of middle st behind next feather, 16 ch, miss 2 ch, 1 htr in each of next 7 ch, 1 tr in each remaining ch, sl st in back loop only of middle st behind next feather, 14 ch, miss 2 ch, 1 htr in each of next 6 ch, 1 tr in each remaining ch, sl st in back loop only of middle st behind next feather, 13 ch, miss 2 ch, 1 htr in each of next 5 ch, 1 tr in each remaining ch, sl st in back loop of middle st behind next feather. Fasten off.
Join (222) Tulip to 1st st of feather section.
1 dc in each st to 1st feather, work enough ch to stitch across top of feathers. Fasten off leaving a long tail to stitch the ch down.
1st Leg
Join (254) Moon Rock to end of stump, where shown and work 35 ch.
Miss 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each of next 3 ch, 1 dc in following ch, 3 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of following 12 ch, 1 htr, 1 tr and 1 htr in next ch, 1 dc in each ch until 5 ch left, 1 htr in each of following 3 ch, a joined htr over last 2 ch, sl st in st next to join. Fasten off.
2nd Leg
Join (254) Moon Rock to 4th st before stump, where shown and work 35 ch.
Miss 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each of next 3 ch, 1 dc in following ch, 3 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of following 12 ch, 1 htr, 2 tr in next ch, 2 tr and 1 htr in following ch, 1 dc in each ch until 5 ch left, 1 htr in each of following 3 ch, a joined htr over last 2 ch, sl st in st next to join. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the tail part down and the chain across the top of wing.
Sew the feathers down if desired. Add a white bead for the eye or embroider on an eye.
Add a black dot in centre of eye and embroider black markings on beak if desired.
