Welcome to my crochet beehive pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished beehive applique will look like.

Crochet Beehive Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (208) Yellow Gold, (254) Moon Rock, (162) Black Coffee, (606) Grass Green and (106) Snow White.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Thread and needle to stitch the pieces together.
Size
Large beehive (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
16.5cm wide x 20cm high or 6.5” wide x 8” high
Medium beehive (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
10cm wide x 13cm high or 4” wide x 5” high
Small beehive (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
8cm wide x 9cm high or 3” wide x 3.5” high
Beehive Middle Section
Using (208) Yellow Gold work 15 ch.
Row 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch to last ch, 2 sc in last ch. Turn. (16 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (18 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st. Turn. (20 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (18 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (16 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Edge
Join (254) Moon Rock to any st.
Work 1 or 2 sc in each st around, join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
2nd Top Section
Join (208) Yellow Gold to 6th st back from middle st at top of middle section.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 2 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 11 sts, 2 sc in following st. Turn. (15 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (17 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 11 sts, 1 hdc in following st, a joined hdc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Edge
Join (254) Moon Rock to Moon Rock st before 2nd section.
Work 1 sc in each st around the 2nd section to the next Moon Rock st, sl st in Moon Rock st. Fasten off.
Top Section
Join (208) Yellow Gold to 5th st back from centre st.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 11 sts. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, a joined hdc over last 3 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 3 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 3 ch, work a joined dc over the 4 sts. Fasten off.
Edge
Join (254) Moon Rock to Moon Rock st before top section.
Work 1 sc in each st to top st, 3 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, 1 sc in each st around top section to the next Moon Rock st, sl st in Moon Rock st. Fasten off.
2nd Bottom Section
Join (208) Yellow Gold 7 sts before centre st at bottom of middle section where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 14 sts. Turn. (15 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (15 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in each of next 9 sts, a joined sc over last 3 sts. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Edge
Join (254) Moon Rock to Moon Rock st before 2nd bottom section.
Work 1 sc in each st around 2nd bottom section to the next Moon Rock st, sl st in Moon Rock st. Fasten off.
Bottom Section
Join (208) Yellow Gold 3 sts before centre st on 2nd bottom section.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of following 3 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in following st. Fasten off.
Edge
Join (254) Moon Rock to Moon Rock st before bottom section.
Work 1 sc in each st around bottom section to the next Moon Rock st, sl st in Moon Rock st. Fasten off.
Entrance
Using (162) Black Coffee work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join (254) Moon Rock to any st.
1 ch, work 1 or 2 sc in each st around, join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Branch
Using (162) Black Coffee work 30 ch.
Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 4 ch, 1 hdc in each of following 9 ch, 1 dc in each of next 11 ch, 1 tr in each remaining ch. Fasten off.
Bottom Branch
Join (162) Black Coffee to ch at bottom of 2nd dc.
10 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 4 ch, 1 hdc in each remaining ch. Join to branch with a sl st. Fasten off.
Top Branch
Join (162) Black Coffee about halfway between the thick end and the bottom of the branch.
9 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 ch, 1 hdc in each of following 3 ch, 1 dc in each remaining ch. Join with a sl st in branch. Fasten off.
Flower (Make 3)
Using (208) Yellow Gold make a magic loop.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 7 sc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Join (106) Snow White to any st.
Row 2: (3 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, 3 ch, sl st in same st and sl st in next st) 6 times, 3 ch, 1 dc in same st as ch, 3 ch, sl st in same st as last dc. Fasten off.
Leaves (Make 4)
Using (606) Grass Green work 7 ch leaving a long tail at beginning to stitch it to the branch.
Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in following ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 hdc in following ch, 1 sl st, 1 ch, 1 sl st in last ch, working in back loop of ch work 1 hdc in 2nd ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 hdc in following ch, 1 sc in next ch, 1 sl st in last ch. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the entrance to the hive.
Attach the leaves to the branch.
Sew the flowers to the branch.
Attach the hive to the branch.
And there’s the finished beehive appliqué. I’ve also made it in different sizes and with different color flowers.
