Welcome to my crochet beaver pattern. This is a request that I received. The finished beaver applique will look like this.

Crochet Beaver Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Crochet cotton or wool, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colour (254) Moon Rock.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Sewing thread and needle to stitch the beaver together.
- Black thread to embroider on eyes, nose and markings.
Size
Large beaver (Using 8 ply crochet cotton & a 3mm hook)
15cm x 8cm or 6” x 3”
Medium beaver (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
10cm x 5.5cm or 4” x 2.25”
Small beaver (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
7.5cm x 4.5cm or 3” x 1.75”
Head and Body
Using brown cotton work 3 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 3 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Work 6 ch. (8 sts + 6 ch)
Row 10: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 12: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 13: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 16: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 17: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (12 sts).
Row 19: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 20: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 21: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 22: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 23: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 24: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 25: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 26: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 27: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 28: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 29: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 30: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Fasten off.
Tail
Join brown cotton to row 28 as shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 2 dc in same place as ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work a joined dc over both sts. Fasten off.
Front Leg
Join brown cotton to last st on wrong side where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, 1 dc in next st, a joined dc over following 2 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in last st. Fasten off.
Back Leg
Join brown cotton on point down from tail on wrong side.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of following 2 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st and a joined dc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join brown cotton at bottom of tail.
Work 1 dc in each st around tail and back to start of head, work 1 sl st in each st around head and down to end of front leg, into end work 2 ch, sl st into same st, 2 ch, sl st into next st, 1 ch, sl st into same st as last sl st, sl st into each st around to end of back leg, into end work 2 ch, sl st into same st, 2 ch, sl st into next st, 1 ch, sl st into same st as last sl st, sl st into each st around to bottom of tail. Fasten off.
Ear
Using brown make a magic loop.
Into circle work 1 dc, 1 htr, 1 tr, 1 htr and 1 dc. Pull circle tight and fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch ear to head.
Embroider on tail markings.
Embroider an eye, nose and mouth to the head.
Attach whiskers.
Embroider on paw markings.
