Bald Eagle Crochet Pattern
Abbreviations
- st -stitch
- sts -stitches
- ch -chain
- sl st -slip stitch
- dc -double crochet
- htr -half treble crochet
- tr -treble crochet
- dtr -double treble crochet
Materials Used
- Brown, white and yellow crochet cotton or wool.
- Crochet hook.
- Scissors.
- Thread to sew together.
- Sewing needle.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Black and yellow embroidery cotton to embroider on the eye.
Head
Make a magic loop.
11 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1 ch, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end, sl st in magic loop. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 2 joined dc over next 4 sts, 1 dc in each of following 3 sts, sl st in following st, 4 ch. Turn.
Row 3: Miss 1 ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sl st in each st to end. Sl st into magic loop. Turn.
Row 4: 1 sl st into each of 1st 7 sts, 4 ch. Turn.
Row 5: Miss 1st ch, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts. 1 sl st in each remaining st. Sl st into magic loop. Turn.
Row 6: 1 sl st in each of 1st 6 sts, 3 ch. Turn.
Row 7: Miss 1st ch, sl st in each st to end. Sl st in magic loop. Turn.
Row 8: 1 sl st in each of 1st 5 sts, 3 ch. Turn.
Row 9: Miss 1st ch, sl st in each st to end. Sl st in magic loop. Pull circle tight and fasten off.
Beak
Join cotton where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 4 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 dc in 1st st, 1 joined dc over next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over both sts. Fasten off.
Body
15 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, working in the front part of the dc from previous row work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, working in the back part of the dc from previous row work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, working in the front part of the dc from previous row work 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 5: 1 ch, working in the back part of the dc from previous row work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 6:1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, working in the front part of the dc from previous row work 1 dc in each st. Fasten off.
Join cotton to back tip as shown.
1 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, (2 ch, 1 sl st in next st) repeat down to the corner. Don’t fasten off.
1st Leg
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 10 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts. 1 joined dc over following 2 sts. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 joined dc over same st as last part of last joined dc and last st. Fasten off.
2nd Leg
Join cotton to next st after 1st leg.
Row 1: 1 ch, 1 dc in each remaining st. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 2 dc in first st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 joined dc over same st as last part of last joined dc and last st. Fasten off.
Claws (Make 2)
Make a magic loop.
2 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in magic loop, (3 ch, miss 1 ch and sl st in each remaining ch and sl st into magic loop) twice, 2 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and sl st in magic loop, 1 ch, 1 dc in magic loop. Pull magic loop tight.
Join to end of leg and fasten off.
Tail
12 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, 1 dc in each st to end. 3 ch. Turn.
Row 2: Miss 1st ch, 1 dc in each st working only in the front loop of each st. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to end. 2 ch. Turn.
Row 4: Miss 1st ch, 1 dc in each st working only in the front loop of each dc. Turn.
Row 5: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to end. 2 ch. Turn.
Row 6: Miss 1st ch, 1 dc in each st working only in the front loop of each dc. Turn.
Row 7: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 2 sts before end. Turn.
Row 8: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end working only in the front loop of each dc. Fasten off.
Small Wing
12 ch.
Row 1: Miss 2 ch and work 1 htr in each remaining ch. Turn.
Rows 2-6: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st. Turn.
Row 7: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st. Don’t Turn.
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st along top as shown. 10 ch.
Row 9: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end. Sl st in next dc along the top. Turn.
Row 10: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to end, 5 ch.
Row 11: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end. Sl st in next dc along the top. Turn.
Row 12: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts from end, 5 ch.
Row 13: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end. Sl st in next dc along the top. Turn.
Row 14: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts from end, 5 ch.
Row 15: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end. Sl st in next dc along the top. Turn.
Row 16: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts from end, 4 ch.
Row 17: 1 ch, Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to main part of the wing, (1 sl st in next st, 2 ch) working down side repeat to end. Fasten off.
Large Wing
15 ch.
Row 1: Miss 2 sts and work 1 htr in each remaining ch. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. 10 ch.
Row 3: Miss 1 ch, 1 dc in each ch, across the top as shown and down the original 15 ch. Turn.
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts before end. 9 ch.
Row 5: Miss 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 6: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts before end. 9 ch.
Row 7: Miss 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 8: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts before end. 5 ch.
Row 9: Miss 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 10: 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 6 sts from end. 4 ch.
Row 11: Miss 1 ch, work 1 dc in each ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts on main part of wing and 1 sl st in following st. Turn.
Row 12: 1 sl st in each st to 3 sts before end. 4 ch.
Row 13: Miss 1 ch, work 1 dc in each ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts on main part of wing and 1 sl st in following st. Turn.
Repeat rows 12 and 13 until you reach the bottom of the main wing part.
Work 1 dc in each st along bottom of wing.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider on the eye in black and then outline it in yellow.
Attach the head to the body.
Sew the tail to the body with the body over the top of the tail.
Stitch the front wing to the body.
Attach the back wing to the body as shown.
And there’s the finished crochet bald eagle.
