Welcome to my latest crochet pattern, this bald eagle. It was a request from Ronnie.

Crochet Bald Eagle Pattern

Abbreviations

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet
• dtr – double treble crochet

Materials Used

• Brown, white and yellow crochet cotton or wool.
• Crochet hook.
• Scissors.
• Thread to sew together.
• Sewing needle.
• Darning needle to weave in ends.
• Black and yellow embroidery cotton to embroider on the eye.

Head

Make a magic loop.
11 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end, sl st in magic loop. Turn.
Row 2:  1 ch, 2 joined sc over next 4 sts, 1 sc in following 3 sts, sl st in following st. 4 ch.  Turn.
Row 3:  Miss 1 ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sl st in each st to end. Sl st into magic loop.  Turn.
Row 4:  1 sl st into each of 1^st 7 sts, 4 ch.  Turn.
Row 5:  Miss 1^st ch, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts.  1 sl st in each remaining st.  Sl st into magic loop.  Turn.
Row 6:  1 sl st in each of 1^st 6 sts, 3 ch.  Turn.
Row 7:  Miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each st to end.  Sl st in magic loop.  Turn.
Row 8:  1 sl st in each of 1^st 5 sts, 3 ch.  Turn.
Row 9:  Miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each st to end.  Sl st in magic loop.  Pull circle tight and fasten off.

Beak

Join cotton where shown.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of next 4 sts.  Turn.
Row 2:  1 ch, 1 joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 3:  1 ch, 1 sc in 1^st st, 1 joined sc over next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 4:  1 ch, 1 joined sc over both sts.  Fasten off.

Body

15 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.
Row 2:  1 ch, working in the front part of the sc from previous row work 1 sc in each st. Turn.
Row 3:  1 ch, working in the back part of the sc from previous row work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.
Row 4:  1 ch, 2 sc in 1^st st, working in the front part of the sc from previous row work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.
Row 5:  1 ch, working in the back part of the sc from previous row work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.
Row 6:1 ch, 2 sc in 1^st st, working in the front part of the sc from previous row work 1 sc in each st.  Fasten off.

Join cotton to back tip as shown.

1 ch, 1 sc in same place as ch, (2 ch, 1 sl st in next st) repeat down to the corner.  Don’t fasten off.

1^st Leg

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of next 10 sts.  Turn.
Row 2:  1 ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts. 1 joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 3:  1 ch, 1 joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 4:  1 ch, 1 joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 joined sc over same st as last part of last joined sc and last st.  Fasten off.

2^nd Leg

Join cotton to next st after 1^st leg.

Row 1:  1 ch, 1 sc in each remaining st.  Turn.
Row 2:  1 ch, 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 3:  1 ch, 1 joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, 1 joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn.
Row 4:  1 ch, 1 joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 joined sc over same st as last part of last joined sc and last st.  Fasten off.

Claws (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

2 ch, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, sl st in magic loop, (3 ch, miss 1 ch and work 1 sl st in each remaining ch and sl st into magic loop) twice, 2 ch, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook and sl st in magic loop, 1 ch, 1 sc in magic loop. Pull magic loop tight.

Join to end of leg and fasten off.

Tail

12 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1^st ch, 1 sc in each st to end.  3 ch. Turn.
Row 2:  Miss 1^st ch, 1 sc in each st working only in the front loop of each st. Turn.
Row 3:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to end.  2 ch. Turn.
Row 4:  Miss 1^st ch, 1 sc in each st, working only in the front loop of each sc. Turn.
Row 5:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to end.  2 ch. Turn.
Row 6:  Miss 1^st ch, 1 sc in each st, working only in the front loop of each sc. Turn.
Row 7:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 2 sts before end.  Turn.
Row 8:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end, working only in the front loop of each sc .  Fasten off.

Small Wing

12 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 2 ch and work 1 hdc in each remaining ch.  Turn.
Rows 2-6:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st.  Turn.

Row 7:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st.  Don’t Turn.
Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st along top as shown.  10 ch.

Row 9:  Miss 1^st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Sl st in next sc along the top. Turn.
Row 10:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to end, 5 ch.
Row 11:  Miss 1^st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Sl st in next sc along the top.  Turn.
Row 12:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts from end, 5 ch.
Row 13:  Miss 1^st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Sl st in next sc along the top.  Turn.
Row 14:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts from end, 4 ch.
Row 15:  1 ch, Miss 1^st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Sl st in next sc along the top.  Turn.
Row 16:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts from end, 4 ch.
Row 17:  1 ch, Miss 1^st ch and work 1 dc in each st to main part of the wing. 1 sl st in next st, 2 ch) working down side repeat to end. Fasten off.

Large Wing

15 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 2 ch and work 1 hdc in each remaining ch.  Turn.
Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  10 ch.
Row 3:  Miss 1 ch, 1 sc in each ch, across the top as shown and down the original 15 ch.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts before end.  9 ch.
Row 5:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.
Row 6:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts before end.  9 ch.

Row 7:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.
Row 8:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 4 sts before end.  5 ch.
Row 9:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.
Row 10:  1 ch, 1 sl st in each st to 6 sts from end.  4 ch.

Row 11:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts on main part of wing and 1 sl st in following st.  Turn.
Row 12:  1 sl st in each st to 3 sts before end.  4 ch.
Row 13:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts on main part of wing and 1 sl st in following st.  Turn.

Repeat rows 12 and 13 until you reach the bottom of the main wing part.

Work 1 sc in each st along bottom of wing.

To Make Up

Weave in ends. Embroider on the eye in black and then outline it in yellow.

Attach the head to the body.

Sew the tail to the body with the body over the top of the tail.

Stitch the front wing to the body.

Attach the back wing to the body as shown.

And there’s the finished crochet bald eagle.
