Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern
This is an easy blanket and the stitch could be worked for any size blanket and any weight yarn. To work out how many chain you need for your blanket just crochet a length of chain to the desired width of your blanket making sure you have an odd number of chain. When you have worked most of the 1st row check the width of your row and undo any excess chain but make sure you end with a double crochet.
Cot Blanket
Materials used
- I used 3 200g balls of baby mint and 2 200g balls of baby blue 8 ply luxury wool from Bendigo Woollen Mills. 8 ply wool is similar to light worsted in the US and double knit in the UK, but the pattern would work with any weight yarn.
- A 4mm crochet hook.
- Scissors.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
Size
36” x 54” or 91.5cm x 137cm
145 ch (Measured about 35” or 89cm after 1st row)
To make a different size always work an odd number of chain.
Row 1: Work 1 tr in 4th ch from hook, (1 dc in next st, 1 tr in following st) repeat to last st, 1 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 2: 3 ch, work 1 tr in same st as ch, (1 dc in front loop only of next st ‘in top of tr of previous row’, then 1 tr in following st) repeat to last st, work 1 dc in last st. Turn.
Repeat row 2 until your blanket is the desired length. I worked green on my blanket for 29” or 74cm and then worked 14.5” or 37cm of blue. If using 2 colours fasten off but if only using 1 colour don’t fasten off before the edging.
I work 2/3 of the blanket in green for the grass and then change to blue for the final 3rd.
