Welcome to my crochet starfish pattern. This is a request that I received. This is what the finished starfish applique will look like.

Crochet Starfish Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush (201) Electric Blue.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Sewing thread and needle to stitch the starfish together.
- Scissors.
Size
Large starfish (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
12.5cm wide x 12.5cm high or 5” wide x 5” high
Medium starfish (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
9cm wide x 9cm high or 3.5” wide x 3.5” high
Small starfish (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
7cm wide x 7cm high or 2.75” wide x 2.75” high
Bottom Section
Using (201) Electric Blue make a magic loop.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 15 dc in circle, pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.
Row 2: 2 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Join with a sl st in the top of 1st st. (30 sts)
Row 3: (10 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in same st as ch, 1 sl st in each of next 6 sts) 4 times, 10 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in same st as ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts.
Row 4: (Work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts in the side of ch, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in each of last 3 sts, 2 sc in top of ch, 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts down the other side, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc in each of last 3 sts, sl st in 3rd st between spokes) 5 times. Fasten off.
Top Section
Using (201) Electric Blue make a magic loop.
(13 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st and 1 ch in each remaining ch, 1 sl st in circle) 5 times. Pull circle tight and fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the top section to the bottom section.
And there’s the finished starfish applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colors.
