Welcome to my crochet boy pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished boy applique will look like.

Crochet Boy Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (130) Old Lace, (162) Black Coffee, (115) Hot Red and (393) Charcoal.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Thread and needle to stitch the boy together.
- Black thread for embroidery if desired.
Size
Large boy (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
9cm wide x 19cm high or 3.5” wide x 7.5” high
Medium boy (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
5cm wide x 12cm high or 2” wide x 4.75” high
Small boy (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
4cm wide x 9cm high or 1.5” wide x 3.5” high
Head
Using (130) Old Lace work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 tr in next ch, 1 dc in last ch. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, a joined dc over the last 2 sts. (5 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in last st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st around. Join with a sl st in the top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Hair
Using (162) Black Coffee work 6 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 tr in following ch, 1 htr in next ch, 1 dc in last ch. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 3: 3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch, sl st in 2nd st along row 2, 2 ch, sl st in following st, (1 ch, sl st in next st) 2 times, 2 ch, sl st in following st, 3 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 dc in each remaining ch, sl st in last st of row 2. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
Work 1 dc in each st around the top of hair to the start of row 3. Fasten off.
Shirt
Using (115) Hot Red work 8 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (7 sts)
Rows 2-3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined dc over the next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. 3 ch. (6 sts + 3 ch)
Row 6: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch and each st. 3 ch. (8 sts + 3 ch)
Row 7: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch and st. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (10 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 6 sts, a joined dc over the last 2 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 4 sts, a joined dc over the last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 12: 2 ch, work a joined htr and dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc and htr over last 2 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
Work 1 sl st in each st to the beginning of row 12. Fasten off.
Neck
Join (130) Old Lace to the last st of the neatening row at the top of the shoulder where shown.
Row 1: 2 ch, work a joined htr over same st as join and next st, 1 tr in following st, a joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Fasten off.
Shorts
Join (393) Charcoal in the back loop only to 2nd st at the bottom of the shirt.
Row 1: 1 ch, working into the back loop only work 2 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts and 2 dc in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Rows 2-3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, a joined dc over following 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 7: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Fasten off.
2nd Shorts Leg
Join (393) Charcoal to 1st st of row 3.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, a joined dc over following 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join (393) Charcoal to 1st st of shorts.
Work 1 sl st in each st around shorts. Fasten off.
1st Leg
Join (130) Old Lace to 2nd st at end of shorts leg. I left a long tail to use for the neatening row.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 4-6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 9: 2 ch, work a joined htr over the 3 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the tail left from the beginning of leg work 1 sl st in each st around leg. Fasten off.
2nd Leg
Join (130) Old Lace to 1st st at the end of the shorts leg. I left a long tail to use for the neatening row.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 4-6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 7: 2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 9: 2 ch, work a joined htr over the 3 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the tail left from the beginning of leg work 1 sl st in each st around leg. Fasten off.
Shoes
Join (393) Charcoal to foot where shown.
Work 1 sl st in each st until even with join.
Strap
Leaving a long tail at the beginning to stitch the strap down and using (393) Charcoal work 4 ch, sl st in the side of the shoe where shown. Work 1 sl st in each ch. Fasten off.
1st Arm
Join (130) Old Lace to 1st st of the sleeve. I left a long tail to use for the neatening row.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 2-3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts. Turn. (1 st)
Rows 7-8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn. (1 st)
Row 9: 3 ch, work a 3 tr cluster in st. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the tail left from the beginning of the arm work 1 sl st in each st around the arm. Fasten off.
2nd Arm
Join (130) Old Lace to 1st st of the sleeve on the wrong side. I left a long tail to use for the neatening row and worked over it for the 1st row.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 2-3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts. Turn. (1 st)
Rows 7-8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st. Turn. (1 st)
Row 9: 3 ch, work a 3 tr cluster in st. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the tail left from the beginning of the arm work 1 sl st in each st around the arm. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the hair to the head.
Embroider on eyes, eyebrows, nose and mouth.
Attach the head to the neck. Embroider markings to the shorts if desired. Sew the strap across the foot.
