Welcome to this post, where I’ll show you how to make up a plane mobile crochet. This is the last post in the series and I’ll show you how to put everything together. This is what the plane mobile will look like once it’s finished.

To Make Up Plane Mobile Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations 

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet

Materials Used

• I used white Red Heart Soft yarn, which is 8 ply wool, light worsted in the US and double knit in the UK.
• Crochet hooks, I used a 2.5mm hook for the Red Heart yarn and a 1.25mm hook for the crochet cotton.
• Scissors.
• Darning needle to weave in ends.
• I used a 30cm or 12” metal hoop, you could use the inside ring of an embroidery hoop.
• A hook or ring for a hanger for the mobile.
• Strong cotton, fishing line or string to attach the planes and clouds to the hoop, (I used 2 balls of No. 20 crochet cotton and crocheted chain to make it stronger).
• Filling to put in the clouds, if desired.
• 4 planes and teddies made using the previous 2 patterns.
• I used some seed beads and teardrop beads to hang from the clouds.

Clouds (Make 2 pieces for each cloud – I made 4 clouds)

I’ve used the same crochet pattern for the cloud that you can find at crochet cloud pattern. Crochet the same as the cloud until the end of Row 4.  Fasten off the 1^st cloud piece but leave the 2^nd cloud unfastened though I wove in the tail from the beginning.

Joining the 2 Cloud Pieces Together

With wrong sides facing work a sl st in each st through both cloud pieces around most of the cloud.

Fill the cloud with the filling, if desired, then sl st in each remaining st.  Fasten off.

To Crochet Around the Hoop and the Small Ring for the Top

Join yarn to hoop.

1 ch, (4 sc, 4 ch) repeat all the way around the hoop, easing the stitches close together as you go.  Join with a sl st in 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Work around the small ring for the top the same as the hoop.

Chain to Join Planes to the Hoop (Make 4)

Leaving a long tail at the beginning, work 16cm (6 ¼”) of chain, don’t fasten off.  Work another 16cm length of chain the same to join to the other side of the plane, don’t fasten off.  Put both loops from the end of your 16cm chains on your hook and continue working chain using the cotton from both balls until your work measures 33cm (13”) from the join.  Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Chain to Join the Clouds to the Hoop (Make 4)

Using 2 balls of cotton and leaving a long tail at the beginning work 30cm (12”) of chain.  Fasten off leaving a long tail.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Hang beads to the bottom of the clouds on cotton if desired, I used 3 sets of beads for each cloud.

Stitch one end of the chain for the clouds to the top of each cloud.

Attach 1 short end of the chain to join the plane to the hoop to each side of the plane towards the back loosely and then check to make sure the plane is properly balanced with the teddy sitting in the plane.  (Depending on the amount and weight of the filling each plane may need the chain to be stitched on in a slightly different place.)

Once balanced secure the ends tightly and weave in. Put the teddy in the plane.

Attach the planes evenly around the hoop hanging about 25 cm (9 ¾”) from the hoop to the join on the plane.

Join the clouds to the mobile evenly between the planes but higher up having the same amount of chain left at the top of the hoop to attach to the ring.

Attach the ring or hook to the ends of the chains from the planes and clouds balancing the mobile.

And there’s the finished mobile. Here it is on a little trip to our local park.
