Picnic Food Crochet Pattern

Welcome to my picnic food crochet pattern. This is another pattern in my teddy bears picnic blanket series. I’ll have a watermelon, 2 sauce bottles, 2 glasses with straws and a small basket. When finished, the crochet food appliques will look like this.

Food and Basket to go on Picnic Table Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Size

Large picnic table with food (Using 8 ply wool)

16cm x 20cm or 6.25” x 8”

Medium picnic table with food (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)

11.5cm x 14.5cm or 4.5” x 5.75”

Large watermelon (Using 8 ply wool)

4cm x 2cm or 1.5” x 0.75”

Medium watermelon (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)

3cm x 1.5cm or 1.25” x 0.5”

Large sauce (Using 8 ply wool)

3.5cm x 1cm or 1.25” x 0.25”

Medium sauce (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)

2cm x 1cm or 0.75” x 0.25”

Large glass with straw (Using 8 ply wool)

3cm x 2cm or 1.25” x 0.75”

Medium glass with straw (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)

2.5cm x 1.5cm or 0.75” x 0.5”

Large picnic basket (Using 8 ply wool)

6cm x 6cm or 2.25” x 2.25”

Medium picnic basket (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)

4cm x 4.5cm or 1.5” x 1.75”

Watermelon

Using red make a magic loop.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 4 sc into circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in each st.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work (1 sc in next st, 2 sc in following st) repeat to end of row.  Don’t fasten off.

Sl st in each st along top.  Fasten off.

Join white to 1st st of curve.

Sl st in each st around curve.  Fasten off.

Join green to 1st white st.

Sl st in back loop only in each st around white row.  Fasten off.

Sauce Bottle

6 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 5 sts, 1 ch, sl st in top of 1st row.  1 ch.  Fasten off.

Glass

3 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Sl st in each st around sides and bottom.  Fasten off.

Join white to 1st st at top of glass.

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Fasten off.

Straw

Using white work 10 ch.  Fasten off.

Small Picnic Basket

10 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, (1 dc in bottom of next st, 1 sc in following st) repeat to last st, 1 sc in last st.   Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, 1 dc in bottom of 1st st, (1 sc in next st, 1 dc in bottom of following st) repeat to end of row.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, (1 dc in bottom of next st, 1 sc in following st) repeat to last st, 1 sc in last st.   Don’t Fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st along sides and bottom, along top work 2 ch, then 1 hdc in each st.  Don’t fasten off.

Handle

Turn basket and work a sl st into 2nd st along top.  Work 16 ch.

Sl st into 2nd last st on the other end of top of basket.  Work 1 sc in each ch.  Sl st in top of basket.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider seeds on watermelon.

Stitch the straw to the glass bending the top of the straw.

Sew the sauce bottles to the basket if desired.
